The Dallas Stars Eliminated in the Western Conference Final for the Second Straight Season

The Dallas have been eliminated by the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Final after losing game six 2-1. Connor McDavid and Zack Hyman scored both goals for the Oilers on the power play and held on as Dallas pushed for the rest of the game. On today’s episode of Locked On Stars, Joey reacts to the Stars season coming to a close and how much this years loss in the conference final was upsetting. He also gives his biggest reasons on the Stars shortcomings in the series versus Edmonton including the lack of depth scoring and special teams. The Stars went 0-for-14 on the man advantage and gave up four power play goals the last two games. Joe Pavelski, Matt Duchene, Mason Marchement and many others needed to play better if they wanted to knock off Edmonton. To wrap up the episode, we reflect on Joe Pavelski’s career and whats in store in his near future. Also, a quick look at what offseason questions the Stars will have to answer before next season.

  1. Oilers fan here. Thank you for the great series, Dallas is an amazing team and it was refreshing to play against a team with a pleasant and respectful fan base. I will be routing for the mavericks in the NBA finals from now on because the Dallas fans deserve a championship!

  2. I have only watched the first two minutes of the video so far, but my take here is Dallas has a chance to be even better next year. I am extremely hopeful for this offseason, and I truly hope we can sign some awesome people to fill our bottom 2 d pair, and some serious AHL defensemen. Dallas has a solid 10 forwards, and 3 defensemen figured out. 16m to sign 6 players. My least favorite contracts atm are Suter, Marchment, and Faksa.

I would take Pavelski in a Perry role, but league min, line 4 mins. Used more for his leadership. That brings us to 11 forwards, duchene would be #12. With that said, it would be rough to let steel and smith walk. I would almost prefer them being resigned, and faksa and marchment traded away.

Defensemen, I want Tanev and harly resigned, that brings us to 5, I would love for us to sign 2 great defensemen and trade suter. Idk what is feasible with all these no movement clauses, but id almost let suter walk sending him to the AHL.

Wedgewood on a 1m or less contract would be great.

So now it’s, is 16m enough to sign pavelski, duchene, tanev, harly, wedgewood, and one new defensemen? Probably.

Is that going to get us to win? No, I think we would need to replace suter and faksa. Ideally Sam steel for faksa, and hakenpaa for suter.

  3. The Dallas Stars didn’t show up. Sometime opponents cause you to faulted but that was not the case. I do not understand how they look solid against the Knight the last 5 games, dominating over Avs, and then just fail to execute against the worst goalie they saw. I don’t say this to be spiteful, Oilers are AMAZING and their talent was talked about ad nauseam during the series. I just personally feel the Stars need to let the older players go and Otter needs to work on that high glove to advance further next year.

  4. Well Joey, i didnt like Otteinger giving up 3 goals on 2 shots. Embarrassing. That kid is a head case. So inconsistent.

  5. Stars blew it again, It does not matter the coach, what players etc, this team just can't get over the hump and win the cup. I don't know how they beat Vegas and Colorado but lots to Edmonton and thier HORRIBLE D and Goalie. Also speaking of Goalies , Oettinger still is not good enough it seems, not clutch. I am so mad and frustrated now.

  6. Really disappointed for the Stars. Was really hoping for the veteran players to get a shot at winning the cup. Pete DeBoer is one heck of a guy. I think the whole team wanted to win for him than they did themselves.

  7. They left it all out on the ice. They played really hard and still came up short. That settles it. The right team won unfortunately for us stars fans. The special teams were extremely lopsided and in the end that was the stars demise. We had a great season and we will be back! There is hope for the future and what a ride these playoffs were. Great takes Joey, appreciate your videos and its been great going through this journey on this channel with fellow stars fans and opposing fans as well. Excited to see what moves are made this off season for next year.
    🌟 💚🍻

  8. Hopefully the playoffs will go back to the 1v8 format. The Oilers benefitted from a weak division. In 1v8 the Oilers would have opened against Colorado. It would have been a very different playoffs.

  9. Yes DALLAS was very very good this year… good enough to get to the Final. Hit 2 posts- just 1 goal difference, maybe McD has just been working for it a bit longer/karma etc. Stanley Cup is just about impossible..

  10. …no shame losing to these OILERS. Not many teams can overcome a 97 followed by a 29 jumping over the boards at you and come out on top. Not to mention a Bouchard and a hot SKINNER…

  11. I'm a casual Stars fan who's gotten back into the sport this past season, and for me personally this season was a blast. Of course not the ending we wanted, but this team has reinvigorated my interest in hockey, and now I can't wait for next season. Good luck to the Oilers next round.

  12. I'm a Canucks fan, but I follow all the Canadian Hockey Teams. Dallas played their heart out, and deserve a congratulations too. You boys and girls will get a cup, that's a guarantee, and a promise. As for Edmonton, this was a Monumental win. A Canadian team hasn't won the Stanley Cup in over 30 years, the entire country needs it bad. To hell with team rivalries, All Canadians stand with our Oilers to go get Lord Stanley's Mug.

You've got our Respect Dallas, Twas a true honor for a hell of a series with ya. make sure ya give em hell for us next year!!!

  13. As a Oiler fan, Dallas had become my second favorite team and only team that I felt bad to beat in these playoff series. Stars and fans have so much class on and off the rink. The young players are promising and fans are world class. Of course there are bad apples but not many and every team has them. Won me over on how they acted after the La Bamba debacle with their generosity to rectify the situation. Definitely didn't feel bad for those unpleasant, uncouth and uncivilized teams and fans that Oilers beat in previous series that I should not mention here.

Stay classy and Stars' future is shining bright!

  14. Are the veterans on the team too old?? What is their main issue going forward?? Did they just run out of gas ⛽️ after VGK and Colorado?? Do they need to make some roster moves in the offseason?? What’s going to happen to Pete Debore?? As you mentioned he doesn’t change strategies. I feel like Joe Pavelski will probably retire from the NHL he’s 39 years old I think 🤔.

  15. i gained respect for the stars and their fans in this series after the la bamba situation they owned up to their mistakes and they came together and raised money for a good cause it was an honest mistake and they took it on the chin with class dallas will be back stronger and they will without a doubt win a cup here soon

  16. I predicted this series to be over in 6, but the shoe on the other foot. It was a bit shocking to say the least, and Dallas really seemed to run out of gas after game 4. All we can say now is that the SCF will be a good one to watch, especially if Skinner stays hot.

Also, what happened to the Dallas PP? It completely dried up and it seemed like they really couldn’t get setup in the O zone.

  17. After the 'la bamba' misunderstanding, stars fans showed their true colors

And its was beautiful, thank you all so much for donating to the stelter fund. ❤❤

  18. Sorry for your loss Dallas , your more than welcome to cheer on the Oilers with us now! Let’s go crush those Panthers together!!

  19. Am an Oilers fan but I listened to every single one of your post game coverages for this series. Your insight to a team I know very little about was an amazing introduction on top of your broadcast style speaking skills. Thoroughly enjoyed Locked on Stars during breakfast or morning commutes. Great series. See you next season.

  20. Oilers were 2 steps ahead almost every game it felt like. 🤷‍♂️ better luck next year boys! I’ll be back to root on the Stars again

  21. I tip my cap to the Stars, they provided a hard fought series that was full of up's and down's on both sides, which ultimately provided an entertaining series for our fan bases. At the end of the day Oilers PP and PK was the difference maker and Skinner was better than Otter when he needed to be (Games 4-6).

  22. I think fatigue played a huge role, just too many minutes on Miro and Harley. Need to assess that. Get rid of Suter over summer and replace with Hanifin. TOp 6 looks awesome next year, Stanky, Borque, Hintz, Robo, Johnston and Seguin/Benn. Bottom six is okay, not sure about pavelski, if he wants to play in 4th line and SH, give him 1-2 years but $1.5M max/per. Need speed and size

  23. Avalanche fan here. You said you didn't think the Stars gave their best in this series. Unfortunately, that's hockey, that happens, who knows why. The Avalanche didn't play their best vs Dallas, who knows why. Winnepeg did not play their best vs the Avalanche, who knows why. That's what makes winning the Stanley Cup so hard to do.

  24. The problem with Dallas is the same problem they have had for the past five years. Ever since they took st.louis to game seven overtime. They dont have a team with players that are 200 or more poinds that can bring the physical play in the playoffs. The stars never out hit their opponents in the playoffs and that leads to their losing. Get bigger get meaner and then you will see a Stanley cup come back to dallas.

  25. I really hope we don’t resign Tanev. He was great a deadline pickup. But he’ll be 35 next year, at that age and for what his next contract will cost in terms of AAV and years has Ryan Sutter MkII written all over it. Think we should also consider moving one of either Hintz or Robertson for an actual top RH defensemen to pair with Miro or Harley
