Sure the Panthers are good but Jacob Trouba's boneheaded penalties and defensive misplays go back multiple series this year and multiple years going back to Tampa 2022. Rangers can overcome it against good teams, but not against great teams.

Zibanejad needs to be traded or bought out. Drury screwed up signing him to 8 yr $8.5m. Every season it's the same BS since joining the Rangers in 2016 and we have him for another 6 more years of the same BS. It's not working, he's gotta go.
Lingren needs to go. I like him a lot but Fox is this team and Fox gets roughed up every game. The guy needs his Jeff beukeboom.

Out of both lists, unrestricted and restricted free agents, only Schneider will be on the team next year. Ranger fans love the heart and grit that Lingren brings but he just too small to be a top defenseman in the league. All the others, including Kakko, were just meh…
Rangers don't have a leader. Haven't won since 94 with Messier being a true leader and took team on his back. Kreider is the softest 6'3 220lb forward in the game. Was nowhere to be found in ECF other than the SH breakaway. With his size and speed he should have been creating havoc on Panther D the way Barkov did. Zibanejad is another soft player. Doesn't take body or fight for puck. Panarin reverted to the milk carton once again 49 goals in regular season and in crunch time (ECF), 1 goal with 1:40 left in Ranger season. Pathetic!
My biggest offseason wants for the Rangers are another top 6 scorer, but one who can also handle the physical rigors of the Stanley Cup playoffs, another puck moving defenseman to replace Jacob Trouba, Jack Drury, and Ryan Lomberg. Find a way to get rid of Trouba at all costs (even if I think it’s highly unlikely), Kaapo Kakko is probably gonna have to be moved as much as it sucks cause he does seem like a good kid, Filip Chytil may be expendable at this point as I think that 3rd line center spot should be filled by someone more gritty and defensive minded like a Jack Drury (plus his concussion history is a concern now), and as amazing as Barclay Goodrow was in the playoffs, I don’t see a realistic world where his contract doesn’t get in the way of the necessary changes that have to be made, so a trade or buyout may be necessary. I know people are complaining about Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad, Artemi panarin, and Ryan Lindgren as well, but those guys aren’t going anywhere realistically. They all played well up until the Florida series, and that’s what’s gonna be looked at. I can agree that Zibanejad’s play this season left some things to be desired, but he still finished with 72 points during the regular season and was a point per game in the playoffs overall. He just needs to regain some confidence that he clearly didn’t have this season for whatever reason, and he needs to start shooting the puck more. Hopefully the addition of another scorer can help with that. Othmann should be ready to get a look to start next season at the very least, Jones and Rempe should be ready for full time looks, maybe Edstrom as well…idk, and all of the UFAs should not be brought back outside of maaaaaybe Chad Ruhwedel just to have a 7th defenseman in toe, and a good one at that. So I personally think the Rangers should look something like this next season:
Panarin-Trocheck-Lafrenière
Kreider-Zibanejad-RW Scorer
Cuylle-Drury-Othmann
Lomberg-either Goodrow, Edstrom, or a 4th line center in FA-Rempe
Lindgren-Fox
Miller-right handed two way puck moving defenseman with an edge
Jones-Schneider
Shesterkin
Quick
Vesey, Brodzinski, Ruhwedel or another 7th defenseman
I understand the salary cap will play a role in everything, but I firmly believe that if it can be made to work then this is what the Rangers should do. As for who replaces Trouba as the captain, probably either Vincent Trocheck, Adam Fox, or you wait for Alexis Lafrenière to become the elite winger he was meant to be and give it to him in the next year or two. This is all just my opinion obviously, but that’s what I believe should happen.
This perfectly sums it all up! Management has to start making more strategic changes to stop this cycle. But for the love of God, please get rid of Trouba! He is horrible and deserves to go above anyone else.

I don't know want to hear maturation when we're talking about our stars. They are in their early 30's on the back end of their peaks, they are Eurostars that want to skate around rather than earn their spacing on the ice and that was on full display against Florida how bad they are at that. They may only get 1 maybe 2 cracks left at this. This team needs guys that can play physical up front. Thats how you become a better even strength offense and how you sustain your production in the postseason. Trouba needs to go, if nothing else needs the C ripped off his Jersey, and they need to go find someone who can lead with experience of winning a Cup before. Laviolette needs to trust these younger players a lot more, Rempe, Jones, Edstrom, and Othmann. These guys will bring the speed and intensity to play a heavier kind of checking game, and bring a balanced 4 lines to the table.

Rangers played as if they were in a no-check league with some exceptions. They did not address the physicality of the Panthers especially. Game has once again shifted from light, fast, skilled players to heavy, fast, skilled players. NYRs need to beef up the team if they expect any different outcome.
Kakko isn't getting any minutes. His biggest hurdle is he can't play with Zibanijed and Kreider. That's where they want him, but he is a bad fit.

They get figured out and the coaches and players can't come up with another attacking strategy.
First, Z has a no trade clause and he played the whole season without a RW1. No wonder his production was down. It's easy to defend that line when he's the skill guy out there. Also, he defends well as a forward and kills penalties. If they can get an actual RW1 by trading Kakko and whatever else they can muster up, they should do it.
Second, Lindgren and Schneider must be re-signed. No doubts there. Bring up Jones to play where Gus played. Gus will want too much money.
Third, we can't afford to buy out Trouba and have all that dead cap space on the books for years to come. He needs to step up and play like an $8 million player. Also, Kreider should be Captain of this team moving forward.
So, they need to find a way to get that RW 1, call up Othmann and then the lines would look like this in my opinion:

I think this is a solid line up considering the cap and $$ we have available to sign players. Plus, they have to have $$ to lock up Shesty next year which is why they can't afford to buy out Trouba. 109 days or so until pre-season!! 😩

Kakko needs a change of scenery in a place with less pressure on him. I'd love to see him go to the Islanders or Devils just to drive Rangers fans nuts if he ever did manage to blossom into something decent. He'd be a fine 3rd liner if coaches just left him alone but they always try to make him do things he isnt good at.
He's never going to be a 25 goal scorer in the league. Just stick him in the bottom 6 and let him play hockey. His draft status is irrelevant right now which is why he needs out of NY.
I love the rangers now…. we need someone like connor mcdavid or draitsaild or hyman…. someone that can lead and make the team better. Someone like 93 Mika Z. That is what I think.

All UFAs should go. Re-sign Schneider and Lindgren. Extend Shesterkin contract this offseason. Trade Trouba and Goodrow for cap space. Trade Kakko. Bring in a RW1 and two solid defensemen. Othmann and Berard are ready to promote. The Rangers have more than enough players to fill the bottom six forward positions. They need a RW to play with Kreider and Zibanejad and a couple veteran hard hitting defensemen for a deep playoff run next year.
