How the New York Islanders Dropped the Ball on J.G. Pageau’s Trade Value

Asset management is critical in the NHL since the salary cap era began and today we break down how Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders failed to maximize the value of center J.G. Pageau. We analyze what his value is now, what it was not too long ago and why the Isles dropped the ball on this particular player.

Plus we discuss former Isles first round pick Kyle Okposo’s first trip to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Florida Panthers and the future of former Isles coaches Jack Capuano and Lane Lambert.

And we continue our player by player look at the season as we break down Bo Horvat’s 2023-24 season and what to expect from him next season and beyond.

  1. Nothing new. When you have a stubborn out of date gm with no fiscal cap knowledge this is the result. 44 got 6 year $5.5 mil. deal-way too much too long term from louzer in 2020 so louzer could justify the 1st and 2nd he gave sens to acquire 44 at tdl. Its easy to say 44 should have been moved at '22 or '23 tdl but who really knows what louzers intentions were with 44? 27, 3, 6, 24, 53 as well are all are at a point of decline and overpaid (except 24) as their deals age. Louzer is fkd if 29, 21 fall off a cliff this next season hurting their trade value at next years tdl. They could both bring back needed assets as rentals. Doubt if louzer would move either unless isles collapse next season giving louzer no choice but to move out assets. Word is sj may have interest in 44. I don't know what greir would give louzer for a used up 44. I'd take london sniper Hautanen in a 44 deal. I don't think greir is that dumb. Word is necas could be moved this week. casucks, flames, and bj's in on necas. And laffs have to decide who goes-marner or pj judas?

  2. I wonder if the old age is getting to him where he is overwhelmed being the gm. Lou is the type to be stubborn enough not to realize this and not step down. And if the Pageau for a first is true and Lou turned it down that’s proof the owners either A. Don’t give a damn or B. Are really that stupid because he should’ve been fired

The longer he’s GM the longer he is putting the islanders further away from any idea of competing for a cup. By the time he leaves THEN there will be a rebuild. I don’t see the islanders getting in the finals for maybe 5 or more yrs the way this team is going. Lou better have some miracles up his sleeve.
