Strudwick details buzz around Edmonton, how Oilers stack up physically with Panthers

Jason Strudwick joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss the buzz around Edmonton right now with the Oilers off to the Stanley Cup Final, who is most responsible for the Oilers’ turnaround, how they stack up physically with the Panthers, what this run means for long-time Oilers forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, and much more.

  1. Physicality is a must and Vinny needs to remember this isn't peewee, hitting is allowed.

RNH is this generations Ryan Smyth. Let's hope it doesn't take quite the same path.

  2. Can’t see how the Oilers can match that same grind as the panthers. I don’t expect them to, they need to play a smart disciplined game and stay the course and not let the game within the game get to them.
If the Oilers can stay of out the box and take the abuse, the calls will favor them eventually.
Protect Skinner at all costs though, other than that, take the hits boys, make that tough plays to get the puck up ice.
    Let’s F’n go!!!!

  3. Panthers as good as the oilers? Yes Florida can hit n r really physical but don't drag it.
    Oilers in 5

  4. I was a child when Gretzky played for the Oilers and it was just electric here. They even added “city of champions” on the Welcome to Edmonton sign and remained in there until about 5 yrs ago it was removed. Now? We demand they replace it once again and say, “ Welcome to Oil Town!” This has been an incredibly emotional last 24 hrs as I bawled my eyes out unexpectedly when that buzzer went, it’s a dream come true to see our city rally once again.

  5. Wrong take!! It is nearly impossible to cheer for Edmonton for most Calgarians. Tkachuk didn't leave on such bad terms compared to Gaudreau too

  6. All I have to say is, playing LA was a tea party, Vancouver played a third string goalie with their best player was injured, and Dallas just plain shit the bed. If Oilers fans wish to see what they’re in for, simply watch some replays of the Panthers dominate Tampa, Boston, and then the Rangers. The Panthers beat three ELITE goaltenders in Vasilevsky, Swayman and Shisterken, – ya think Skinner is gonna intimidate the Florida Panthers? All year people have under estimated them, Oilers will soon find out that their final opponent is NOTHING like the previous three that they faced.
    Panthers in five.

  7. Great series coming up. Can’t wait till the anti Jews cry when Panthers win the cup saying Gary hates Canada. 20/21 was proof he bends over backwards for them. Stars and Rangers had more points. Still waiting on Canada to pay the bill for Bubble in 20. Like Trump they won’t

  8. Corey Perry once again in the Stanley cup. All of Canada has been waiting 30 years to celebrate a cup win. Does the state of Florida once again dash Canadian hopes lol

  9. Im a flames fan i will hop on the Oilers wagon fck chucky 😤 bennet they left us with a sad 😥 feelings this year,, lets go oilers lets go alberta lets go 🇨🇦

  10. the heart has no problem seeing EDM win for the nuge, mcjesus, drai, etc.

the brain says FLA is the better constructed, better coached, better experienced team, that beat 3 better goalies to get to the 4th round.

the fan within wants 7 games, plus o/t sessions lol.

FLA can play any style you want. but the fact remains, their defense is better. EDM will be trying to score on a vezina finalist. bobrovsky has given up 2 or less goals in 13 of 17 games. pretty consistent. plus, the panthers will be trying to score on skinner who is nowhere near what shesterkin, swayman or vasilevskiy are. a bit different than talbot, silovs and oettinger.

while edmonton has higher end scoring talent, florida does have tkachuk, selke winner barkov and verhaghe, who can score big goals. unlike DAL, who had no game-breakers.

FLA will take care of their business as long as they stay out of the box and stick to their relentless forecheck, which had an average of 43.47 hits per game compared to the oilers at 31.2 hits per game in the p-off's.

2024 will be a great 4th round learning experience for EDM. it'll def make for a compelling argument for mcjesus and draisaitl to take another contract extension to stay with the oilers.

bottom line, FLA goes home 35 pounds heavier after game 6.

  11. TSN, listen closely. Can you start talking about the fact that 15 of the 20 on the game 6 roster vs Dallas are CANADIAN. Ya think ESPN wouldn't mention the Rangers being stacked with Americans if they were in the Cup. I haven't heard a word on the Canadian content on this team, why?
