The Vegas Golden Knights are victorious against the Vancouver Canucks

The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Vancouver Canucks 5-4 Monday night to cap off a successful road trip in which the VGK earned 3 of a possible 4 points. Things have gone well for the VGK to date, but are troubled waters ahead as the schedule starts to get tougher? Tony and Chris discuss. What’s with the third line and is there a fix internally from the HSK or the VGK roster? Enforcer or no enforcer? Tony and Chris share perspectives on the (possible) need for an enforcer.

  1. Best 20 game start in VGK history. On pace for 126 point season. I think it's safe to say that Mr. McCrimmon's position with the team is safe. Wouldn't you agree, Mr Cordasco?

  2. I know Karlsson hasn’t been scoring goals in the last couple games but he gets assists and USUALLY makes good defensive plays. If he’s doing those things I don’t need him to score a bunch of goals. Assists to the other misfits works just fine for me . And yea would definitely like to see Kessel step things up. Definitely feels like he has another level of play he’s not tapping into

  3. Karlsson is a very smart, valuable hockey player. He needs to shoot more. Instead, he often ops to set up Smith and Marchy. He is essential to the chemistry of the Misfit line. He is one of the best two way centers in the Western Conference. He has been very durable and plays well on the PK. He rarely takes a penalty. I have been baffled for weeks that Cassidy has not moved Roy to the third line center. Howden needs to fill the role of the fourth line center going forward. VGK needs to be careful about trading for another winger in the sunset of their career like Kessel. Give Cotter a chance to develop with a strong center like Roy.

  4. An enforcer? No, no and no. VGK's don't need a zero production enforcer. Didn't you just spend 30 minutes talking about the lack of production on the third line? And now you want to take up a roster spot for a zero point enforcer. Those days are OVER. A player must produce goals and assists to stay in the NHL. Want an enforcer? OK. I got one for you and he's an available free agent – Lou Fontinato. Yes, keep Howden at 4C and Roy moved back to line 3. What's wrong with Kessel? Nothing other than he's weighed down with two AHL'ers, just as Tuch was. Kessel needs two complimentary NHL level players and he'll be just fine for this season. How does VGK's get the third line producer? Gotta move Brossoit's $2.275 mil. Gotta move Jake L. $775k. Now you got $3 million. Give Chicago the 2023 2nd and 3rd pick for Max Domi. Domi (C), Roy and Kessel on the wings. This 3rd line would produce goals and assists. Why Domi? He is absolutely the best $3 mil dollar player that is available in the NHL. VGK can't afford a $10 mil player. The most cash they can come up with is about $3 mil which matches up with Domi. Domi produces points equal to Roy, same pay range, produces on the PP and is 60% on faceoffs, hits and checks. Get this guy and extend him 4 or 5 years at $3 mil. Third line production solved and this is doable. Jake L is a goner, Cotter and Amadio are players 22 and 23 on the roster. Big question later on is – who's gonna take Kessel's place next season and how much will that cost? Another big hole to fill and not alot of cap space.
