Chicago Blackhawks Land 2nd Overall Pick In 2024 NHL Draft, Lukas Reichel Signs Extension!

The Chicago Blackhawks sadly came up just short in their slackin’ for Macklin efforts, as they will be picking 2nd overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. While they won’t get Macklin Celebrini, host Jack Bushman recaps the results of the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery and breaks down the Blackhawks other options at No. 2, like Ivan Demidov, Artyom Levshunov, Cayden Lindstrom, Zayne Perekh, Anton Silayev, and more. The episode concludes with a discussion on forward Lukas Reichel signing a two-year contract extension through the 2025-26 season with a $1.2 million AAV. All that and more on Locked On Blackhawks. 1. QUESTION OF THE DAY — What Was YOUR Reaction To The Blackhawks Getting The 2nd Pick? And Who Do YOU Want Them To Take?! LET ME HEAR YA!

  2. I was a bit bummed but also very happy that the Hawks didn't drop. #2 is at the very top of the draft.

  3. Levshunov is from Belarus, so he doesn't have that Russian stink on him, and he's already here at Michigan State, so I'm good with him. We already have two or three Demidovs in the pipeline.

  4. Reichels extension makes sense, it might give him some confidence, and if he never lives up to his potential, the Hawks are only out two mil and change.

  5. Broadcast was weird. Macklin not knowing about Zillow and feeling uncomfortable on camera was awkward. The NHL also showed Anaheim fans after San Jose won the lottery. The pauses in between are weird and it felt like the NHL took a 5min reveal and stretched it 30mins. I also don’t like broadcasting the first pick. Why ruin the parody.

  6. Glad you mentioned how good Reichel looked in camp/preseason. That’s what makes his situation all the more vexing.

  7. Is it a foregone conclusion that Kevin Korchinski, Frank Nazar, and Landon Salaggert spend next season in Rockford or at least start the season in Rockford?

It seems like that's what people are saying.

  8. Cayden Lindstrom, if his medicals check out, should be the obvious choice. Why pick another 5’10” smurf who has a ton of question marks? Demidov isn’t exactly fast and his predominant skating style is the disastrous 10 and 2. He’s basically a travel team player playing against house league kids. On top of that the mhl is godawful! How many 6’4” 215lb players with his skill set are out there? I would take Tig Iginla before Demidov. I’ll admit having Bedard and Demidov together would be entertaining, problem is they’re both perimeter players, who’s going to the net? Ooooh, I know, Cayden Lindstrom

  9. I’m hoping for Lindstrom. Everyone may call it a reach, but his size, scoring, skating, and 2-way play are all great assets that we need.

  10. thank god you didn't win the Celebrini sweepstake but it's as if you did. I hate that Chicago will end up with Bedard AND Demidov after what their horrible organization covered up. Many teams did way less and got punished and lost a first round pick. Chicago covers sexual assault literally and NO punishment. Here have Bedard and Demidov as reward. SHAMEFUL

  11. I really like Berkly Catton the Forward who plays for Spokane. I think he and Ivan Demidov have very similar skill sets; their Skating, Playmaking/IQ, and Stick Handling or Hands I believe to be of the same level. Plus they are both listed at 5’11” and weigh in at the 160’s. If you don’t believe me or are interested to see for yourself check out NHL Draft Pros YouTube channel where their are videos of both prospects and more that you can watch.

So this is a question I’ve been pondering… Would you, if you were Kyle Davidson, Draft Ivan Demidov and then try and trade up for a Defenseman that you like, such as Anton Silayev, OR would you Draft Artyom Levshunov and then try and trade up for Berkly Catton?

Personally I lean toward the latter, but there is no guarantee that you can trade up to land Catton and with a deeper Defensive class in this Draft the former may be the better option.

Just interested to hear Locked On Blackhawks thoughts or anyone else’s. Cheers y’all.

  12. It was very weird he was in Vienna playing for Canada in mens worlds so yes very very odd. I mean what do you want the kid to say. Also he may go back to BU unlikely but it's possible since they didn't make NCAA championship. I'm thrilled with 2 whoever the take. I agree they need wingers so Celebrini may not have been best for Hawks. I mean you take him but you need W or RD.

  13. Thoughts and comments:

    1. Winning the No. 2 pick is a huge plus, not a consolation prize. Odds were 75% or so that the Blackhawks would drop down to No. 3 or 4. Not winning the No. 1 pick is not a big deal.

    2. Best No. 2 options: Either Artyem Levshunov or Ivan Demidov. Period. The other prospects, e.g., Cayden Lindstrom, Tij Iginla, Sam Dickinson, Zayne Parekh, etc., are not quite in this league and Anton Silayev is intriguing but raw. Ideal choice is Demidov, to pair with Connor Bedard and prevent him from going crazy for another two years, but KD MUST be certain Demidov will leave Russia after he fulfills his current KHL Leningrad contract.

  14. A question for YOU:

As you mentioned, one of the keys to how well the Blackhawks to at the 2024 NHL draft is what KD does with the No. 20 pick and whether he can package it with one of the 2nd round picks to move up from No. 20. My question to you – if it requires packaging the No. 20 pick with the high 2nd round pick at No. 34 to move up to No. 10-12, who are the prospects that might slip down that you would make this trade for?? FWIW, I would make this trade if either Tij Iginla or Cole Eisermann slip down to No. 10. Note that the prospect of pairing Eisermann with Connor Bedard makes Eiserman far more valuable to the Blackhawks than he is to other teams.
