jokes at ianc McLaren if you’re new to the podcast I’m a lifelong Boston Bruins fan been covering this team for various outlets for about 20 years worked as a full-time hockey News writer for the score and have been hosting this podcast for the past five years and in that time the Boston Bruins drafted a seemingly promising goalie and have since allowed him to move on and that goalie is Reed dick he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL entry draft he just put in a pretty good season with the Swift current Broncos of the Western Hockey League up here in Canada but the Bruins had until June 1st to sign him and keep his rights instead they allowed him to um to to peace out basically uh the Bruins do have a very strong pipeline when it comes to goal tending of course Jeremy Swan is the foundation the future the present lenus alar still around for the time being they also have Brandon busy who is a restriced free agent 25 years old very promising player uh they have Michael dietro signed for one more season KY keer can become a unrestricted free agent at age 25 as well so why let Reed dick pass on well not pass on but move on to a different uh situation well again they just have enough depth at that position you you can never have enough I guess but Swan’s a restrictive free agent allar could still be around so busy may or may not be up on the main roster and if even if allar is traded they still might sign a goalie veteran to be back up to Jeremy Swan DPO signed for another season ker is an unrestricted free agent after a fairly disappointing season uh and then there was Redick six foot4 athletic goalie uh 911 safe percentage in 37 games with the Broncos uh this season but the Bruins decided to pass on extending an entry-level contract allowing his rights to expire um so now the goal tending stable is a bit um let’s say thinner uh Philip fedach is entering his junior year at Providence College uh will likely wait to sign with the Bruins for another at least another year uh ker dick on the way out perhaps also allar heading elsewhere the Bruins now have let’s say effectively Swan alark busy dietro sedac um but you know you look at Swan who is probably gonna sign a seven probably eight-year contract with the club he’s the starter for the foreseeable future busy will likely sign could be the backup Andor split starts in the AHL with DPO um so that’s pretty much where things stand at the moment with the Bruins perhaps and this is a thing too obviously there is a um contract maximum that you can reach the Bruins are currently at 30 of 50 available contracts maybe they just wanted to have as much flexibility as possible perhaps they didn’t see enough in uh Redick to make it palpable to or make him a priority to sign um dick now will be able to um enter the draft once again uh looking at Daily faceof back in March it was written that uh he’s a Winkler Manitoba product played pretty significant role goal for the Swift Current Broncos this past season 163 And1 record in the last in his last 20 games up to that point um pretty good safe percentage sixth round pick in the 2022 draft and he will be eligible once again to be selected um seeing as yeah the Bruins chose not to sign his rights um so Reed dick available to be uh to be had by anybody who wants to take him around the NHL now the other thing to note here is that perhaps it wasn’t just the Bruins decision either perhaps Reed dick saw omark Swan at the NHL level busy deeto ahead of him on the depth chart maybe he didn’t see a path to becoming a Pro with the Boston Bruins so it’s very possible that he decided that he did not want to sign either did he feel like he could get a legitimate shot in the organization uh or did he want to re-enter the draft take his chances on an organization where he might get a better shot so not wasn’t necessarily all a Boston Bruins decision he had to sign as well and as it stands Redick will be back in the NHL draft it’ll be very interesting to see if he is scooped up by by another team and What Becomes of him it could be an opportunity lost for the Bruins again you can never have too much goenda traded possibility that they could sign a veteran busy Depetro uh at the AHL level with one of those guys primed for a recall in the event of uh injury or what have you this all precludes is that the right word assumes that allar won’t be around um a team may be interested may be willing to dangle a first round pick we’ll talk about that we’ll also give a Martin NIS update here as the podcast continues YouTube be sure to check out locked on sports today all the latest news opinions and Analysis from all across the locked on Universe free on YouTube and the Amazon Fire TV channels app now there’s one player that the Bruins have reported interest in and that is Martin Nas who is apparently being made available by the Carolina Hurricanes NS is a native of czechia he was drafted 12th overall in 2017 he’s coming off a 24 goal 29 assist 53 Point season for the hurricanes in 77 games played for his career he’s got 97 goals 146 assists for 243 points in 362 games that’s an average of 0 point six seven points per game over a full 82 Game season that’s about 55 points he did however have a 28 goal 43 assist season 2022 23 a very high-end speedy playmaking and goal scoring uh player for the uh Carolina Hurricanes who would fit in very well with the likes of David posnak paval zaka Jacob loo Etc now there had been some Rumblings that perhaps lenus allmar had been floated to the hurricanes with NES potentially coming the other way um it’s interesting or important to note that Nas is a restricted free agent meaning he is due a new contract after his uh previous two-year deal $3 million capit uh just expired a very nice deal for the hurricanes and he’s due a bigger payday uh does he fit into the Hurricanes longtime plans would they perhaps prefer to resign Jake gensel who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins before the Trad headline they also have to sign Seth Jarvis to a new deal as well um current contract projections according to uh pro- hockey rumors at least have Ness signing at around 7.5 million on a maxterm deal and the Hurricanes don’t seem willing to oblig again with Jarvis surpassing him on the depth chart and gensel also perhaps being resigned is that something the Bruins would be willing to pay they will have the cap space he’s only 25 certainly could be a good investment considering uh the relationship he has with some of his countrymen now it’s reported that the Canucks Flames Canadians have all displayed some level of interest in nass’s services at least 12 teams have him on their radar according to the fourth period and the Flyers Kraken Predators also among those interested is allmark enough to get that deal done keeping in mind he is only under contract for one more season uh we might soon find out because Frank sarelli again take all these sources with a bit of a grain of salt but he said on the daily Faceoff hockey podcast on Monday that a nest trade could come as soon as this week as soon as prior to game one of the Stanley Cup Final now again it had been uh previously reported that Omar nateas Could Happen fluto shinzawa of the athletic addressed this um he could play center for them the Hurricanes need some upgrades in net potentially with uh Frederick Anderson not playing great in the playoffs Peter kov is seemingly the goalie of the future for them uh one hockey operations executive told fluto that I would not do that if I was Carolina all Mark for NS straight up um the market right now according to fluto Favors NS in terms of value more value placed on right shot centers who are 25 years old than 30-year-old in him as well uh just one season left under all Mark’s deal he’s 30 perhaps his best days are behind him I don’t want to make that assumption but uhar would only be a piece in a potential deal for NES they would have to sweeten the pot obviously the Bruins do not have much in the way of draft picks prospects would have to include a Fabian Li sell to make that deal happen who knows but we could know by the end of this week whether or not Don Sweeney and the Boston Bruins are involved the fluto concludes um NES for whatever reason appears to be dissatisfied in Carolina same can’t be said about allmar though and allar does have the ability to choose where he wants to go with that limited no trade clause uh the Hurricanes don’t have to move him Bruins don’t have to move um allar and again there’s the matter of his no trade projection or protection uh all this to say according to fluto the circumstances of a NES allar trade do not align regardless of how good the fit may be nates would project to be a dynamite Center between zaka and Pastak and that’s the point offensive catalysts of his pedigree come at a high price the Avalanche had to give up Bowen Byam and to acquire Casey midat from the Buffalo Sabres the Sharks secured first and second round picks for from New Jersey for teimo Meer Senators traded first and second round selections for Alex the brink and he was one and done in Ottawa Bruins don’t have a first second or third pick this year Mason Loray Matt ptra Johnny beer have some trade value but does it make sense to trade one of those guys to bring in NIS um seems unlikely according to fluto that this would happen NES forar unless Don Sweeney is willing to sweeten the pot now as I mentioned the Bruins are in need of draft picks and there’s another team that might be willing to dangle theirs in exchange for a goenda the New Jersey Devils have made it known that they are willing to trade the number 10 pick in the 2024 NHL draft for the right price uh New Jersey Devils general manager Tom fitgerald spoke on Monday at the NHL scouting combine and said if they feel it helps the team now and in the foreseeable future then they’re listening they haven’t gotten anything yet uh but the more he talks to teams he says listen I’m open to moving number 10 but it’s going to have to be something significant uh the Devils have six picks in this draft including the number 10 pick two third round picks um and at the end of the day they said they’re in a position Now versus a couple years ago where if they can find the right piece to help them get where they want to go [Music] then they’re willing to flip that pick and there’s no question they could use an upgrade in net uh Sheldon Keefe taking over the Reigns he’s going to inject some change a different voice Fitzgerald said Toronto perennial playoff Contender that’s where the Devils want to be and the goalie position is something they need they allowed 3.43 goals per game this season tied for 26 in the NHL and Jake Allen is the only goalie he played well but he’s the only goalie under contract for the next season um Fitzgerald said he is in the goalie Market talking to teams but there a butt and the butt is how do they want to build the team they’d like to add up front they’d like to add on the back end what are those pieces going to cost what’s goal tending GNA cost does the number 10 pick get you the type of player that you can add to the group now if the devils are offering the number 10 pick for lenus Omar you take that and run um he’s saying though they want someone who can help now and for the foreseeable future so they would a have to be a team that allar is willing to go to and be a team that he is willing to resign with you would think if they’re going to give up this pick they do have a very promising group of players Jack Hughes teimo Meer jper brat niiko heier uh the list goes on um this is a team that could be on the rise if indeed they were to get this kind of golender could be a good fit but again it has to be a place where Lena allmark wants to go perhaps resign um before the Bruins would be able to get that pick from the New Jersey Devils but that would be a fantastic move for Don Sweeney if he’s able to get that pick yeah Prospect pipeline is pretty thin there are some pieces there that the Bruins can work with and build on but with no pick in the first three rounds this year that’s setting your prospect pipeline back even further uh it would be important to get in on that if if they’re able to um and then free up that cap space to seek help elsewhere so some things in motion here there’s a bit of a break between uh the Conference Finals and the Stanley Cup Final some teams could be making some moves the Bruins might want to be aggressive and get ahead of the market make something happen here it’s going to be a very interesting month leading up to free agency and we will bring you all the latest here today was a quick and dirty new news update Redick not re not signed to an entry-level deal Martin hes perhaps available Devil’s dangling that 10th pick does allar want to go to Carolina New Jersey and uh yeah that’s pretty much it friends thank you so much for taking some time to uh check in please do subscribe if you have not already we’ll be back tomorrow for a fresh episode of Locked on Boston Bruins part of the locked on podcast Network your favorite team every single day [Music]

The first offseason domino fell over the weekend as the Boston Bruins and goaltending prospect Reid Dyck did not sign an entry-level agreement. Whether that was a team decision or Dyck decided he wanted to re-enter the draft is undetermined, but there’s one fewer goalie in the pipeline.

Linus Ullmark is still around, of course, but could be included in a package to acquire Martin Necas from the Carolina Hurricanes. Or, perhaps he could be floated in a deal with the Devils as New Jersey appears willing to part with the 10th overall pick.

It’s a Tuesday news day as Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren brings you all the latest on the black and gold in the lead up to a Florida Panthers – Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Final.

  1. Too much speculation at this time of year makes everyone look like anxious dummies, lost to fantasy.

Nobody really has a record for off season roster prediction. Sweeny does some goofy smart things. Geekie, Brazeau and Zacha were (for the most part) pick ups that came without forecasting by the Bruins blogosphere.

Ya'll are blind dizzy folk, shooting darts in a darkroom with no board to score upon.

    I am entertained

  2. In a perfect world Linus and Jeremy don't want to break up the tandem and work together to give the Bruins a team friendly signing. Not likely but one can dream!
