caps gm and leafs gm have a long history of trading together, plus caps have torontos former coach in carbury. i could see marner to caps for kemperer and a caps 2nd, no salary retained by either, caps woke up and are down to just 4 old guys from 2018 cup and are young ,caps are loaded at goalie.
Tornto fans imo opinion you run them one last time, you still have to account for marner when he is on the ice seems that a play couldbe drawn up with marner is a decoy., look at caps, tampa and boston and they went through heartache hell for years especially caps but the other two paid there dues to win and both either got swept or blew large leads ,all three were presidents trophy teams so why not run them back your sooo close to give up now, how crazy well will tavares play knowing its his last try for a cup as a leaf.?……..run them back and get a consistant boring goaltender.
I get that Samsonov isn't a great starting goalie for a team that hopes to contend, but I really don't like the disrespect he gets from leafs fans. He's the guy we have. He's the only goalie I've ever seen win a series for the leafs. He battled back to even get the starting position this year. It's probably for the best he moves on but I genuinely loved him as a leaf.
marner is also getting over a high ankle sprain. But sure, run him out of town, probably the leafs best player. Will laugh in ~three years when he wins the Cup with another team.

During the third period the realization came to me that it would be better in the long run for the Leafs to lose this game. Beating Boston and losing to the Panthers would give a flawed positive just like last year. Losing will force necessary changes.

I don't understand the trust in Treliving. Sure, he got players that hit people. He made them considerably slower. He wasted the cap space he had. The best teams in the league are not just big goons. They are fast, physical, and talented. The Leafs could not score. A huge part of that is not having puck moving defensemen.

I honestly feel nothing…..aside from excitement that the Leafs are basically forced to make big changes, I don't feel surprised, angry or sad….I wasn't expecting a deep run nor was I expecting them to beat Boston…..and as I've been saying since the 11 million dollar contract was signed, move Marner and you'll have the money to ice a competitive team.

Every year I get closer to insanity, closer to believing in the curse. The one thing I know forsure Is that Mathew knies is going to be a gamer, let's just hope it's for us.

Wow, you can blame Samsonov all you want, but when your four superstars (44Millions+) and the rest of the team can't score more than two goals a game, you've got a problem. Sammmy was good in this game… you only scored one, and that was thanks to a penalty that wasn't called. I'll go ahead and make my prediction for next year. Mitch will still be a Leaf (no move clause), because I'd be surprised if he agrees to lift his clause to play for Utah or any other team. You'll still be stuck with the core four. Good luck!
trade Auston Matthews to the Bruins. He'd be a great Bruin. Marner is probably best on Lightning.

Really? Nylander is a playoff performer, 43 points +1 in playoffs. Marner is clearly not, 50 points +10 in playoffs. Marner leads the team in playoff points in the "core 4 era", and leads the forwards in playoff plus-minus. Obviously he is the problem. Is he doing what the coach is asking him to do?
THERE NEEDS TO BE CHANGE, BUT NOTHING WILL BE DONE! ITS THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AGAIN!

I can’t wrap My head around keeping Bert- guy finally found a few goals near the end of the season, great.
He’s not clinical – how many chances did he really create in the playoffs? Don’t get me wrong, I like his net front presence, but he doesn’t create much.
His playoff goal was super lucky as he deflection was sending the puck not near the net. His assist on Mitch’s goal wasn’t an offensive zone touch. The other two assists were just passes up the boards (one where the defender fell and coughed the puck up).
How is this worth $5M?
Surely there’s a Marlie that can fill this net front presence role?
Sam, I like ya, but you've been questioning migraines for like a week. Go look up "retinal migraine" or "ocular migraine" and then (hopefully) you'll understand what Nylander was going through. Educate yourself and have some sympathy for god's sake.
Almost every deal Lou has signed since leaving the Leafs has been an overpay with too much term, can we please stop the revisionist history on that. Its a Lou mantra that led Kyle Dubas to wait on signing Marner and Nylander until their value peaked. "If you have time, use it."
