The Drysdale stuff is reductive. There's no perfect knowledge, especially in scouting. Random chance is always a huge part of results. If there's a 90% chance he's good and a 60% chance someone else is good, they were still right to take him regardless of how things break eventually.
You need to evaluate trades with the knowledge available at the time. You can't wait to see what happens any more than you can evaluate a pre-flop poker bet based on which river card comes up.

As much I want a decent signing and a trade or two. It makes way more sense to ride it out until we actually figure how good MM is and how passable our goaltending is
Jonesy and hilferty played that very carefully on Michkov which they should and they know obviously the deal but that guy on X just seems like a twerp and is likely just stewing up baloney
I went to a pregame dinner thing with the alumni before the FLYERS bruins alumni game this year. Hilferty was awesome. Introducing himself and taking time to talk and listen to fans. You can tell it really matters to Him that he connects with the diehard fans of this team
