  1. They can try and push mcdavid as much as they want. Guy has absolutely no personality and would be a marketing nightmare.

  2. It seems it is the thing of our time, maybe of all different times. Recency bias. We just take the shiny new guy and compare him to all the greats as if that new shiny guy is shinier than the ones before. Completely forgetting who even 5 years ago or 10 years ago was talked about the same way. Happens a lot in basketball, but McDavid is great, he will likely go down as the second top scorer of all time behind Gretzky and second in individual awards behind Gretzky….but Sid is different kind of good. There is nothing he doesn't do well on the ice, and some things he does exceptionally well. I think McDavid will be at the end of his career and people won't even talk about Sid, and they will talk about him as being on mt Rushmore…just what seems to happen….but Sid to me is a special player that has done everything expected of him….unfortunately we missed his prime…when he averaged points the way McDavid does today with the exception that there was no one else doing the same, at least today Kucherov, MacKinnon are doing some similar numbers. Sid during those prime years was head and shoulders ahead….that 2011 season was 15 pts clear of second place half way through the season in points…on track to be 30 or so points ahead by seasons end before the head injury…two years later his ppg was even better,

  3. Reaching Finals are achieved through teams. Sid has won a Cup before while getting 19 points in 24 games.
How many does McDavid need this playoffs to win this Cup? 40+?
And why did he reach the Finals in the first place? Skinner clutched it and Hyman, Drai, RNH and Bouchard went off. So is he a better player this year because they made it? Of course not. He's the same as he's ever been. The players around him have changed.
Do not judge a player off team accomplishments in the NHL, especially if they're a Forward. They have less influence on outcomes than top D-men and goalies.
Fact of the matter is, the guy's won 5 Art Rosses, 3 Harts and has a 30% better point rate in the playoffs than Sid. He's far from done too, at 27. They didn't lose because of him or Draisaitl in the playoffs. They lost because of management, coaching and chokejobs from others.
We are witnessing one of the top flight greats here, and he deserves the respect of being acknowledged as such. People need to put their personal feelings aside and show some respect here. And yes, he's worth the hype. If he's not, then no active player is.

  4. No doubt people with no context will replace Gordie Howe – MR> HOCKEY or Bobby Orr. And who would rather have Sydney Crosby or Connor McDavid?

  5. Love that analysis. "Most talented player ever!!!" The Crosby stats are insane. I could see him being number 4 all time. McDavid has not even caught jagr, who is in the top 10. Enough to this recency biased nonsense

  6. Bob Stauffer was part of a convo that was about 97 being sooo good , he should be given the ability to overturn the refs calls on the ice , that’s where they’re at up there with him …. Beyond both silly & disrespectful ….I smell Florida Flames karma !!

  7. I've just got to say this: The guitar intro to this Daily Shot always bothers me. As a guitarist for decades, bad intonation jumps out at me instantly. It might technically be "in tune" but there's something off there that sets my nerves on edge. Wish you would use something else.

  8. The NHL and hockey media are falling over themselves waiting for the chance to crown McJesus the GOAT. If he wins one Cup, Sid will never be spoken of again. I’m all in for the Cats in this series.

  9. Crosby goes on the Mt of greats… I would guess Mark Messier might be close too. A lot of cups and added one in NY which is a hard place to play.

  10. I told my friend that the "McDavid Hockey King" stuff is exactly why I want the Oilers to get dumpstered in the finals.

  11. Thank u finally someone else feels the same in macdaivd. I'm in Canada so basically everyone saying he can walk on water, he's won nothing, individual trophies are just pissing contest. It's the cup that matter. Crobsy up 3 to zip who the better?

  12. which goaltender goes on the Mountain? You need one. Goal tenders have a large role in winning championships. Dryden? Roy? Fuhr?

  13. This reminds me of the Kobe-LeBron debate in basketball. Statistically, LeBron always will pop more than Kobe. Sid like Kobe won early, then won again 7 years later to cement his legacy. McDavid like LeBron is taking a while to (possibly) win his first. I’m a Pens fan and love Sid, I do think the stats, MVPs, awards do and are going to favor McDavid. I don’t think McDavid can pass Sid without lifting the Cup. Barring injury, it seems unlikely McDavid falls off big after this year. I do wonder how a thinner framed guy built on speed will age compared to the sturdy Sid build. Time will tell.
