[Sabre Report] Henri Jokiharju is brought up as one of three RFA’s that may not get a qualifying offer. Seravalli wonders if he becomes a trade target for a late-round pick.

Jokiharju is a young right shot defenseman which GMs are always after. If he is only worth a late round pick it goes to show how poorly he is viewed around the league.

  2. His QO is 2.6 dunno why you wouldn’t keep him for that if he signs it

I’m gonna go ahead and call BS on that. He’s a young RHD, and his QO is cheap. There’s no reason for him not to get one.

He was more valuable than Alex Nylander who we traded him for, if we qualify him and another team offer sheets him, no big deal

The Sabres have over $23 million in cap space this offseason, 10th most in the NHL. Right now the only right shot defenseman on the roster is Clifton and they don’t exactly have a surplus of NHL-ready defenseman in the organization.

The Sabres aren’t in a position to let any NHL-level players under contract walk away for nothing and in a “make or break” year for the front office even a late round pick doesn’t help. Dont get cute, just retain your guys.

How often does seraveli get things right?

  7. Who are we replacing him with is my question. The way the defense is set up right now I like and you change one thing the whole tower collapses sometimes. A lot of the time for the Sabres in particular.

Hot take maybe but Joki had his best season yet this season and I’d love for the Sabres to keep him. Only on vibes alone, no real analytics, but I’m getting big Montour vibes and it would kill me if Joki leaves and ends up doing what Montour is doing with the Cats.

I feel like the general consensus when Montour left was pretty meh (granted he went to Anaheim and the Panthers picked him up later but still…), it just screams to me another ‘Buffalo is the perpetual farm team for the NHL’ move to not qualify my guy

Edit: oops, Montour *came* from Anaheim and he did in fact get traded to the cats, my bad.
