Friedman small report on Guentzel and Necas

Sounds like Guentzel is truly not re-signing, Canes actively shopping him for a mid round pick if another team wants a head start on contract negotiations 😞

Only news on Necas is that our FO is treating him like a future star in terms of what they want back in a trade. Good.

If Guentzel signs elsewhere then Necas should be retained, barring insane trade returns. That’s a lot of lost scoring

Guentzel was always a long shot, but I hoped it would’ve worked out.

    Can’t spell Canes without Necas

Guentzel was never going to resign here. If he’d have wanted to take a hometown discount to play somewhere, he’d have signed the myriad of deals Pitt offered.

At his age and with his track record, he owes it to himself/his family to get a bag. His name is on the cup already. He’s a legend in Pitt. Long term big money is all that’s left and the Canes were *never* going to give a 30 year old fwd the 7 or 8 years someone will.

No hard feelings, loved the dude’s game, was good for us, but there’s a reason they’re called rentals.

The shopping around of Guentzel seems to be overlooking a number of key factors, namely that I’m already emotionally attached and I don’t want him to go 🙁

  6. So does this mean we get to keep one of Pesce/Skjei? Hopefully Skjei then.

Welp they better not skimp on bringing in other offensive players then. Gotta replace Necas and Guentzels numbers. Seems like a dumb move to not throw money and term at the guy considering his chemistry with Aho and Jarvis. I get that’s not generally a move from this Canes front office but this should be an exception. Seems like a lot to juggle with all the defensive holes in addition to these two.
