Covers the Devils search and then Ullmark separately:

    – Devils have four targets as he sees it: Markstrom, Ullmark, Gibson, Saros

    – Saros is probably off the board. Nashville wants to keep him and he wants to stay, Fitzgerald will know if there’s any chance pretty quickly due to his relationship with Trotz.

    – Ullmark would like to stay in Boston but may decide to go if the organization pushes him out. Issue with him is he’s not going to play a heavy load so you’re relying on Allen a lot. *Clarifying this, he says Ullmark would play 55 games maximum so Allen or other goalies have to cover a third of the schedule.

    – Gibson has the most money remaining (three years, $6.4 per) and has been the least effective recently

    – Leaves Markstrom as the likely fit. Two years left on his deal, Calgary would probably move him and may retain salary, Markstrom already agreed to waive his NTC for Jersey at the deadline. He’s a workhorse and had a really good year last year. Calgary would also like the 10th pick because it gives them two picks back to back and may enable them to get the defense prospect they need plus the sentimental pick in Tij Iginla.

    – Notes that Fitzgerald is right to be talking about moving the 10th pick and should have an active market and may be now to play these GMs against one another to generate a favorable deal for NJ.

Call me crazy but I have a hunch that we’ll end up with someone other than the usual suspects. Maybe that’s Gibson, maybe it’s signing Brossoit or Stolarz, maybe it’s someone completely off the board (like one of the goalies in Utah, for one example of a team that should be willing to make big moves.)

I just don’t believe that Trotz would really make Saros available, and I think that a Markstrom or Ullmark deal has been negotiated in the press for so long that it’d be hard to actually close.

  3. NJD – Gibson and zegras

    ANA – 10th 2024, next year 1st, and Holtz

Our goalie is already in the system with giant neon numbers screaming out that no one sees… look at his numbers in a league that is notorious for absolutely no defense being played in it. . Put our boy in the ahl for a season while Allen takes the top the spot for this season. .

Ullmark, Saros, Markstrom. Our only options. In that order. We don’t need another 30+ year old backup. And Gibson isn’t the Gibson from 5 years ago. He’s not who we need

  6. Hopefully the oilers win the cup as insufferable Canada will be with winning the cup they aren’t close so it isn’t a true bother. But oilers winning will benefit the devils trade cause that will mean in the last ten years only 2 top tier goalies won the cup in quick and Vasilevskiy ,the rest were average or subpar goalies with teams that played well and we all know Stuart skinner is not a top tier goalie

Seems like they really fucked up not moving Marky early.

Our first at the time may have gotten us into playoffs and probably a first or second round exit.

Instead now I cannot see him alone getting our 10th OA and they’d need to add.

Tij’s stock has risen a great deal. I don’t think he will be available after the 6th pick

Would love to see Marky in New Jersey, big fan of his game, but I still wouldn’t cough up the 10OA straight up for him. Maybe if Calgary retains (a lot) and adds 28OA? LeBrun did say that Calgary are talking to other teams about Markström so that might drive the price up – but a 1st in the first third of the draft? I doubt it.

Goalies are voodoo so I’m wary of paying too much (as in a 10OA-pick) – maybe for Saros if he comes with a reasonable extension (very doubtful).
