Should GMPV Make an Offer?

While the Ducks are in a rebuild, there might be an opportunity to solidify the roster with a proven season and playoff performer. 7x$8.5M could be worth the gamble. Verbeek is looking for a top 6 forward and Guentzel would be a huge add. And with the young Ducks, they have yet to prove themselves so for the cap hit (as it will go up) and adding a proven offensive weapon, could be a home run.

Thoughts?

I like the idea of him playing with guys like MacT and Z, but it will come at a cost.

He’s 30 at the start of the season and will want 7 or 8 years (if sign and trade) and will probably get 8 million aav.

Also he is like A++++ offense and F—- defense. So it’s risk reward.

You only send a pick if you know he is signing an extension. And on top of that you know he is willing to sign with another team and that team wants to trade a pick for him

Guentzal has always made me question on whether he can produce outside of Pittsburgh, he has played his entire career with Crosby who ultimately makes everyone a better player.

I had class with this kid in Omaha and would love to see him come to the Ducks! Alma mater bias tho

If he wants to play here and you can work out a deal then I think it’s crazy not to enquire. But… I’d be willing to bet that $8.5 is on the shallow side of his asking price.

But I’m not sure he fits what Verbeek and Cronin are looking for. Seems like they’ve approached their union with defence defence defence in mind, and guentzel doesn’t play defensively (well, at least).

shoots left and is 30. definitely looking for an 8 year deal which would be disastrous even if he’s that good.

  7. I’m not quite sure this is the year to be making these kind of signings. I still think we’re one year out of being an actual playoff threat. I think this is the year that they really figure out where they’re at. Can Zegras stay healthy? How does Cutter look? What does the goal crease look like? Who is ready to play on the blue line? Is Cronin capable?

I don’t think the expectation is “playoffs or bust”, I think it’s simply to be in the conversation in April. We still need to see some meaningful steps taken. Our roster is still very raw. I’d feel better swinging on a player like Guentzel next offseason when we have a better idea of where we’re at, but you also run the risk that this caliber of player doesn’t end up a free agent very often.

    So yea. I don’t know.

  8. Not sure if hes gonna work with our timeline. Is he still worth the cheese when we are legit competitors? Idk.
