I met a dude wearing a Nieminen jersey at the Tampere game a couple seasons ago and I complimented him on it …it turns out the guy is basically Ville’s best friend and the jersey was his GAME WORN jersey from gm7 in 2001. The only reason Ville wasn’t there in the stands himself is he has a media job now and was covering the game. His buddy was so nice and so cool and it was an awesome moment.

I attended a lot of Hershey Bears games in the mid-to-late 90’s. My friend’s aunt had season tickets first row on the glass right behind the net, so I got to see a lot of cool stuff (including a bunch of future Avs and their entire ‘97 Calder Cup run) right up close.
Ville Nieminen was one of my all-time favorite Bears. He played with so much jam. The thing I always remembered was him coming down the wing with his mouth wide open and a look on his face as though he’d just witnessed some form of abject horror. That was just his game face.
He always looked and played that way and I loved it. In fact, his Wikipedia photo isn’t doing him justice by not being one that prominently shows his Stanley Cup Champion caliber game face. That needs an update.
