i would imagine a "last contract" on a highly potential team, with the right dollar. the incentive will be what Steve says. "yes, im gonna kick bigger tires. bigger/faster/stronger."
that should seal the deal.
the ONLY thing that could stop it from happening is a final four team telling him the same money/term.
My conclusion from hearing about this meeting, to paraphrase the movie "Dumb and Dumber": "So, you're saying that there's a chance…".
Yes, it all comes down to what Kane wants. In the past he has said that he wants to be on a team with DeBrincat, (before coming to Detroit), and more recently that he found Detroit to be a good situation and that he is tired of switching teams so often. Those would all be reasons he may want to stay. But if his main motivation is money and/or a chance to win another Stanley Cup before he retires, then he could probably get a better deal elsewhere from both of those perspectives. So what is more important to him?
But either way, even if he definitely knows what he wants, he is smart to not reveal too much of it at this point, as doing so could put him at a disadvantage in contact negotiations.

Kaner may want three years but Stevie may only give him 2 years. I want Perron gone and Fabbri moved. If you cannot sign Kane bring in Stamkos.
