HFTV on Instagram: “According to @arponbasu, the Ducks are asking for either Guhle or Reinbacher in a deal for Zegras, but Basu says he would be “surprised” if that were to happen. Deal or no deal?

Way too high for me. And I’m one of the ones that is not entirely opposed to Zegras on the Habs roster. Thoughts?

  1. The guy wants out and everyone knows it, you can ask for that, but you won’t get it from me.

However, if you think Guhle is bound to be injury prone, then that’s another story

  2. spiral_out462

Abso-fucking-lutely not. I don’t want the Habs to trade for Zegras, let alone sending Reinbacher in a trade. That gives me Drouin-Sergachev trade vibes.

  3. HonestDespot

    Zegras is the new PLD.

I won’t be happy until he gets traded elsewhere so I don’t have to worry anymore about him being an underwhelming Hab for the rest of the decade.

  4. MissionPayment

Like most Habs fans I still have ptsd from some of our trades including young D. No Friggen way

I’d think about it, there’s a logjam at LD. Matheson, Guhle, Xhekaj, Hutson, Harris, Struble, Engstrom and the list continues.

I’d be really bummed to see Guhle go though

  6. Jimbo_Imperador

No problem to trade Guhle for Zegras 1v1, Guhle’s a slightly better Esa Lindell .

Esa Lindell is great and all, but Zegras has a hella more unique and interesting toolkit as well as a better pedigree as an NHLer so far

    Reinbacher tho, not sure

  7. Christank1

Fuck no. The upside for me isn’t high enough on Zegras for this deal. I’m not even sold on Zegras as a Hab.

  8. Isn’t there still a good chance reinbacher doesn’t become much more than a 4? He’s certainly no slam dunk after last year. A solid nhler based on his floor, but ceiling is questionable no?

  9. GolfIsGood66

Best I can do is Harris and our late first round pick.

  10. No deal for me.
However I do suspect that in order to get someone we want, we will have to deal someone we would like to keep.

My heart can’t handle another young D prospect leaving and becoming a star somewhere else.

Only way I can see it happen is if a bunch of criteria are met:

    – Habs management are too unsure about Guhle injury history
    – Demidov is picked in the Top-4
    – They absolutely LOVE Dickinson and he’s available at 5
    – They think that Zegras doesn’t have any character problems (or those problems are 100% due to things specific with the Ducks and wouldn’t be a problem here)

I really doubt it will happen, but that’s pretty much the only scenario I can see. If they think that Zegras + Dickinson is better than Guhle + Demidov (or Lindstrom or Iginla)

  13. JohnyZoom

I’m going to pass on zegras. However I am not opposed to trading Guhle for a young 60+ pts forward with upside

At some point you gotta give up good  assets to get a good asset. Especially if we draft another D this season, we’re going to need to move one for a forward. We’re not getting first line talent with Harris or Struble

Guys guhle on a contending team is a #3dman lol. Zegras as 2 60 pt seasons behind his belt, likepy has pt per game – 100 pt seasons in him. We dont need him to fight or go to the corners. Every team seems to have a skilled forward like him. Kane played the same way. We have a big center in Dach (lindstrom maybe) Zegras fills a massive hole. Trading Guhle means you likely kee matheson who imo will always be better than guhle.

    Hutson reinbacher
Matheson Mailloux likely becomes your top 4. Still very good. You have to give to get.

  15. OkAnything4877

I wouldn’t give up Reinbacher because of the RHD premium, and the fact that we don’t even know what we have in him yet.

As for Guhle, I think I’d do it under a specific scenario. Guhle is a good young D, but I don’t believe he has #1 upside, more like a solid #2 or #3 on a contender.

If both Lindstrom and Demidov are gone when it’s time to pick, I’d take whichever of Buium, Dickinson, and Silayev are still on the board and I’d pull the trigger on Guhle for Zegras in a 1 for 1. I wouldn’t be willing to add anything to Guhle either.

The reason for this is that I feel that the three D prospects I mentioned do have 1D potential, possibly franchise potential.

  16. Subject_Translator71

Zegras isn’t special enough for that kind of price. Guhle is the closest we have to a top pairing defenseman, and the right side of our defense isn’t that stronge, hence why the team drafted Reinbacher.

  17. At some point this franchise will learn their lesson of trading promising young d men for forwards.

  18. I think it’s in the ballpark in terms of value. Not everyday there’s a center that had two 60+ points season by the time he was 22 is made available.

I think there’s a significant chance that he’s a better player than both of them in his prime and we absolutely need his creativity but because of severe PTSD from McDonagh and Sergachev, I can’t get behind that trade.

  19. Not really surprising. Habs don’t have that many interesting assets that’d make Anaheim part with Zegras. A collection of spare parts don’t do it for teams who still have leverage.

  20. a7xfanquebec

Honestly if it’s Reinbacher i’d do it. It wouldn’t be the same thing as the Sergachev/Drouin Deal. We don’t
Have Victor Mete, Nathan Beaulieu, Jared Tinordi and another E tier prospect at Def we Litteraly have Ghule, Matheson, Savard, Mailloux, Hutson , Struble and Harris.

    My thoughts

    1) I think it’s silly to just attribute every trade scenario to Drouin-Sergachev. Not every skilled forward is gonna peak at 21 like Drouin and not every top 10 pick dman is gonna be a star. Its a dramatic example, especially when we were notorious for having a shit developement program at that time.

    2) I think a lot of our fans would feel differently about Zegras if we were the ones holding him. He’s not a perfect player of course, but some of his accomplishments (multiple 60 pt seasons at 23 for example) are discarded pretty quickly by our fans, but praised heavily when our players do them.

    3) Ideally you still don’t want to do this IMO. There seems to be some type of friction between him and the team. Didn’t get the contract last offseason that a lot of people thought he would, and there clearly is some issue there if you are looking to deal him. Personally would have Reinbacher off the table, maybe consider Guhle but I’m still not sure if they have the leverage to ask for him
