WELCOME TO THE PROMISED LAND, CONNOR MCDAVID (EDMONTON OILERS TO THE STANLEY CUP FINALS: BEAT STARS)

[Music] Conor McDavid welcome to the promised land this is it my friend the Edmonton Oilers have just defeated the Dallas Stars 2 to one in game six to advance to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time in almost 20 years I know I said in my predictions video that the Oilers would take this one in seven but six is okay too I was kind of feeling this morning you know I don’t want to go all Lebron James on y’all but I was feeling this morning I was like you know what Edmonton’s going to win like I don’t want to be that guy who says that he said stuff but like there was just this feeling that I had Edmonton was going to take it we were going to have an Edmonton Florida final and that is exactly what happened now we can talk about the game we can talk about the chances we can talk about the overall performances of some of these guys but I wanted to just go over the narrative the overarching idea as to How the West Was Won because this game 2 to1 Edmonton of course everyone’s going to be talking about the crazy Conor McDavid goal that got everything started I mean he dangled through the entire team pretty much including some of the best defenders in the world he just walked right in Dipsy doodled in out about an around and right through Jake ainger to give the oil spers the one- nothing lead okay that was absolutely beautiful then making it two to nothing okay great it’s sackheim and also on the power play WoW crazy how that works when a power play actually goes out there and scores in big game moments but it is McDavid over to Hyman in the middle he takes the shot beautiful play beats tinger and that’s all the Edmonton Oilers needed because literally the Oilers had three shots on go in the first period two of them went in they had seven shots the rest of the game 10 total shots on goal to the Dallas Stars 35 and the only goal scored by Dallas it’s at the halfway mark of the third period Mason Marchman from Tyler Sean and Chris tanv and again we can talk about the intricacies of the game we can talk about the plays themselves the breakdown shift by shift but I don’t want to do that I want to talk about the n narrative because this was a game where if you go to the money Puck deserve to win meter the Oilers had an 18% chance to win this one the Dallas Stars especially in the second period absolutely came alive and they dominated on the expected goal chart the shots on goal chart the offensive zone possession time chart they put this game on the ropes Jason Robertson Joe pavelski and Tyler Sean all had more expected goal goals then the Edmonton Oilers as a team had expected goals in total the Oilers kind of got cooked but they still won steuart Skinner my goodness what an absolute masterclass performance by him the Dallas Stars got nothing the only goal that went by the Mason Marchman 2 to1 goal wasn’t really Skinner’s fault the puck was bouncing it kind of went behind the goal line and it was centered and it was weirdly placed there it wasn’t really Skinner’s fault but other than that my gosh this guy was struggling so hard against the Vancouver Canucks Jason Robertson had the formula he said yeah you just got to shoot you just got to shoot once I saw the first one go in just had to keep on firing them and then he got a hat-trick and guess what 35 shots on goal in this game six Dallas fighting for their playoff survival odds lives and steuart Skinner shuts the door my goodness what an incredible performance by him and of course by McDavid and Heyman all they needed to do was score one goal each only McDavid with two points in this game that overall experience just The Vibes of watching the game where you had the early two nothing lead for Edmonton a second period where Dallas was just getting chance after chance you’re starting to think okay the dam will break soon like Dallas has been out playing out possessing out chancing the oiler this entire second frame they’re going to get one right like it’s inevitable but in the third period that is all they got just that one really strange play Stuart Skinner stood on his head he did what he needed to do the Oilers were collapsing the Stars to the outside similar strategy that they had against the Vancouver kxs they killed off all of the Power plays that the Dallas Stars got stars were 043 on the man Advantage here again this is another one of these series where special teams sealed the deal Vancouver and Edmonton was one via special teams Dallas and Edmonton same thing two for two the Oilers on the power play in this game six the Stars just could not buy a goal here and the Oilers killed off a too many men on the ice penalty they killed off a puck overg glass dry Sidle penalty these are gifts those kinds of Power plays are gifts if you’re the Dallas Stars and they just did not go through now heading into the Stanley Cup finals Edmonton versus Florida look Conor McDavid against Alexander barov barov has been so good at shutting down every other team’s top players Austin Matthews in the first round yeah barkov’s got him the guy wasn’t able to score with barov on the ice david poock second round same thing I think he got one goal that’s what the graphics said something like that and then our tamy panan in the third round barov shut him down too barov for Ling just the defensive structure and discipline of this Florida Panthers team they will have their hands full this will be the most difficult challenge of their entire playoffs so far because Conor McDavid and Leon dry Sidle are feeling it and I feel like this Oilers team if they do end up winning the Stanley Cup which is possible I mean it’s literally the Stanley Cup finals anybody can win this it’s between two teams when it comes to this version of the Oilers if they end up winning I I feel like it’s really going to change the narrative on so many things firstly Conor McDavid will have cemented himself pretty much as one of the top like six players of all time you could even debate top five I mean everybody says okay Gretzky how Lemieux or big four right but Conor McDavid once he starts consistently getting cups if he starts getting cups I mean it’s a lot more difficult now to win cups compared to when Gordy how was around but if Conor McDavid gets that chip and he continues playing in the finals like he played in this game six not even like the whole game just the one play where he dangled by everybody if he could do that in the Stanley Cup finals and consistently put up points he’ll be breaking into that conversation honestly like Sydney Crosby and his prime fantastic yir Yager in his prime fantastic Messier is already overtaken by McDavid you could say lots of good players in NHL history and Conor Mack could be placing his name amongst the best best of the best and also The Narrative of Team structure will be put into play here too because Conor McDavid and Leon dry cdle have been so out of this world amazing Evan Bard has been as well but if you want to talk about the collective body of the Oilers heading into the playoffs everybody said the same thing yeah know the goal tending Is Not Great the depth Is Not Great the defense is not great but what if all you need is just two one above all level talents in McDavid and dry Sidle one franchise altering defenseman in Bard one tap in Greasy goal scorer like Zach Heyman and that’s it everybody else is interchangeable literally the depths in the bottom six interchangeable Stuart Skinner sure he had a great game but there was a point in the Vancouver Series where he was interchangeable the fact that this Oilers team who is so topheavy and so reliant on like Five Guys was able to make the finals and is able to make such a convincing argument that they could be the Champions this year it does kind of put into question okay do you focus more on depth as a GM or do you focus on literally just the top of your lineup this is going to change the way NHL teams view it because the NHL is a copycat League everybody knows this once one team wins using one style whole bunch of other teams are going to go out there and emulate it so what exactly is the cultural impact going to be if the Edmonton Oilers defeat what is a deeper and more defensively Sound Florida Panthers team the Panthers are going to rough up the Oilers for sure but Edmonton I’d say they could fight back we’ll just see how that whole dynamic comes and goes goal tending Edge I’d say Sergey is better than Stewart Skinner or at least reputation wise you’d go out there and say that but Skinner had a really good game six you know hockey is all about momentum you say oh we have one game can change it all yeah absolutely one game can change it all and usually it does if you want to talk about guys putting up consistent strings of wins and solid play this could be that opportunity and the oil just stamped themselves that ticket so let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about the Edmonton Oilers defeating the Dallas Stars in six games in their Western Conference Final series it’s Edmonton versus Florida two teams remain one will come out as the champion thoughts in the comment section below about this game though I hope you enjoyed this V as99 and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. Barkov didn't shut down Matthews in the first round. It's pretty hard for Barkov to shut down Matthews in the first round when the Panthers first round opponent was Tampa.

Barkov did a more impressive job of shutting down Kucherov. Kucherov is always more dangerous than Matthews.

  2. Of course I should expect to see a bunch of whiney Canucks 'fans' commenting…. Too fuckin bad your team is so fuckin full of themselves (like you lot) and can't seem to realize it takes skill and teamwork….

    Boofuckinhoo.

  3. edmonton had to play like nashville in order to beat vancouver and then realized this style could actually win them the cup

  4. No one is mentioning that the oilers may have just beat a tired dallas stars, not a Dallas Stars team that was on. Interested how they will fare against the Panthers

  5. It pays to finish dead last & get multiple 1st round picks in a row. This is what the Canucks should’ve done. It’s the best, tried & true winning formula. Also, the Canucks deserve huge credit for making the Oilers who they turned out to be this year. They put them in a hole early, forcing them to fire their coach. And that changed everything. With the best PP& best PK, it’s not hard to imagine they would win it all. Plus they have the best player in the world & that helps. It’s scary to think that EP40 makes McDavid type money when he’s not even half the player he is.

  6. The 2024 Stanley Cup Final (Edmonton vs Florida) will set a record for the longest flight ✈️ distance between 2 Stanley Cup Finalist teams: 4,135 km (2,569 miles) & will be @ 2 opposite ends of the North American Continent. The current record for longest distance between Stanley Cup Finalists is 4026 km (2,501.7 miles) set by the 2011 Boston vs Vancouver series.

  7. They made a statement to the Florida Panthers this will be a good series no doubt about that, but they could sweep them like LA or take it into game 7 And win it and they know Florida isnt Dallas but they can end them in game 6, if the Edmonton Oilers win the cup, there going to do it in Edmonton not on the road i guess they would 100 take it but to make it more better win it all at home.

  8. Anyone who watched the game 6 oilers v stars and watched any of the florida series and STILL think the oilers are gonna win must be on something strong. Panthers are going to slay the oilers, its gonna be gross. Edmonton has no experience going this far and was so run down. Panthers arent going to lose again

  9. Barkov didn’t play Matthews… point still stands though. If you think about it though, McDavid and Draisaitl have played against many “stoppers” like Kopitar, Doughty, and the Kings team, Chris Tanev, JT Miller and have always found ways to produce. Im not too worried about Barkov

  10. 5:44, didn’t know Mathews was Bolt in this alternate universe I’m apparently living in. He’s a leaf back where I’m from 🤣😭

  11. I an a regular subscriber to this channel. Excellent video but here is an important question for anyone including Leggo to answer for me publicly who amongst the oilers are their tough guys

Particularly any gentlemen players who can take care of that idiot Sam Bennett and other players like him who play unnecessarily dirty if the oilers have guys that are tough against and stand up to him and other smarty pants then I guarantee you they'll win the cup good luck to them even though I'm not a regular fan of theirs I rather they win it than those Panthers 😊😊😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

  12. Messier, 6 time Stanleu Cup champion, "you could argue already overtaken by McDavid?". What are you smoking man, I want to try.

  13. Barkov is so good he was even shutting down guys in other series than the ones he was playing in

  14. I dont think you even mentioned Ekholm? People vastly underestimate his impact on this team. Nuge as well. The star players you do mention aren't on the PK (at least not much) that just went 28 straight kills. This team is so much more than those top 3 or 4 guys and the fact that making it to the finals still hasnt changed that narrative is honestly mind boggling to me.

  15. The reason gretzky and roy are revered is becuase they won thier cups in canada. If mcdavid does it. I think it makes him better then crosby, mckinnon and toews. its so much harder to win it in canada, its been a long time since a canadian team won if mcdavid can end the drought it would be historic and would cement him in the top five for sure,
