I regularly donate to Lucky Dog Animal Rescue which is a local rescue here in the DC area that often rescues dogs from high kill shelters and otherwise vulnerable situations to hopefully find homes up here. They are the same rescue I got my dog Walter from (picture tax included) and he is my hockey watching buddy. So in honor of the Stanley Pup and Walter, I will once again be giving them a small donation. I just want to encourage everyone to donate to either Lucky Dog or their local animal rescue!

I love this! If I could, I’d also like to share my favorite Dallas-area animal rescue. They’re called [Etheridge Farm Fosters ](https://www.facebook.com/EtheridgeHouseFosters?mibextid=kFxxJD). They’re a married couple and they work with Dallas Pets Alive. In addition to fostering cats and dogs, they have some full time and foster farm animals, including a pig, some goats, and a three-legged llama with a bad attitude. They don’t take donations on an ongoing basis, but they will do fundraisers when they have specific projects. Right now they’re raising funds to help medically treat and spay/neuter a feral colony. They’re lovely people, and the husband is a big Stars fan. They actually named a batch of kittens after Stars players a while back. Whenever we get a hat trick, that’s where I donate my funds.
I would also like to share some local rescues! I worked with this Doberman rescue – Jennifer does great work [https://www.lonestardobermans.org](https://www.lonestardobermans.org)
Operation Kindness is a no kill shelter/rescue in Carrollton – [https://www.operationkindness.org](https://www.operationkindness.org)
Two Great Pyrenees rescues – SPIN in DFW [http://www.spinrescue.org](http://www.spinrescue.org) and Great Pyrenees Rescue Society in the Houston area. They have fosters across Texas and transport up to the PNW – [https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org](https://www.greatpyreneesrescuesociety.org)
Fostering saves lives. I know it’s not for everyone but every little bit that we can to do lessen shelter overpopulation is a step in the right direction. The hard truth is that there are many shelters who have to euthanize dogs and cats for space because of poor ownership – people not fixing their pets, accidental litters, letting their animals roam. We can do better. Donate money, your time, anything you can. You might not be able to save every animal but you can make a world of difference to at least one. (Sorry, this is something I’m very passionate about)

Fozzie Bear and Opal, my two foster fails who have crossed the rainbow bridge. I miss them immensely.
Thanks for sharing! I love Joe Pawvelski!! I want to jump on the train and list two of my favorite Texas rescues that go under the radar.
Texas Humane Heroes is out in Leander and, having been a volunteer there, I can vouch for them 100%. They take in perfectly adoptable animals from kill shelters, animal control, and from other no-kill shelters when they are overfull. They are a bit out in the sticks on a large piece of property and so all the pups have lots of room for walkies and play. They also offer low cost vaccinations and spays/neuters in an attempt to reduce pet homelessness.
Austin Siamese Rescue is another great org and I am plugging them because we got our Siamese and Russian Blue from them and they were great every step of the way – also it’s a good reminder that even if you want a specific breed of animal, you don’t have to buy, there is likely a breed specific rescue in your area or state.
Classic ESPN. Almost no coverage on the all-star, Capt America Joe Pawvelski!!!! All Nate McKibbles
I’m really bummed they are locking it behind a sub service. Setting it up to fail imo, guarantee they’ll be like “oh we didn’t get a lot of viewership so we ain’t doing it again”. Which sucks bc it’s a good cause.
