Pesce "may" be the guy but can they afford him and for that matter any other highend targets??? That is literally the multi-million dollar question. If they throw lots of money at them it just weakens the supporting players needed to fill the roster. A bunch of ELC players is just not going to cut it! None of these high-end transactions will occur until after July 1st once the Marner situation is made clearer. It might even be too late by then.

We all should realize that we need Marner to get to the playoffs before we all talk about going to the second round and further. However, the solution is to sign Marner for 4 more years at 11.5 million and if it doesn't work then trade him after a year or two.

If the Leafs dont sign some of their guys i.e Bert, they should have over $20 million to spend. They may be looking at cheaper options in net and going with a 1a / 1b situation. The leafs can afford Pesche and one more good dman but will need to go younger and cheaper upfront such as Cowan or Grebs, Minten. They may unload Kampf for a pick. It isnt they have no room since Tavares is one more year and so could Marner. Is next year the year the Leafs win the cup? No. But they could win 2 rounds for a start and call it progress.
