Kevyn Adams likes to acquire players that weren’t necessarily on our radar. Enter Dylan Strome. The Sabres are prioritizing a center and he fits what they’re looking for. The question is if the Capitals would entertain it.

It does make sense for both sides but I think the Capitals don’t want to officially start a rebuild while Ovechkin is still active in the NHL.

I don’t know why the capitals would do this but it would be a home run for Kevyn Adams if he pulled it off.

After They bought and about to shutter CapFriendly, Caps ownership can EABOD.
I don’t think they will get a deal for him that they like

The Sabres don’t have much of a pro scouting department. It’s basically just Jeremiah Crowe. And for all the analytics talk we hear the Sabres are about average in terms of head count.
The Sabres seem to be fairly random in their FA signings because 1. Terry has destroyed this franchise and there are only a certain amount of players willing to sign here 2. They don’t scout a lot.

I’ve mentioned Strome a couple times, much to the chagrin of this sub. Maybe because it would be hard to pull off or people didn’t like the trade value. But I think he’d be a perfect fit at 3C and his cap hit makes it work for the next 4 years.

I’ve been banging the drum for awhile on Strome, he would be the exact type of player the Sabres need. He’s put up really strong numbers on a team that really should be focused on rebuilding and his age doesn’t exactly match up with their timeline. His cap hit is great, he doesn’t have a trade clause, and he fits a huge need on this team.
The only problem is that I highly doubt the Capitals want to part with him, so it’ll probably take a big offer to pry him away. The Sabres under-23 talent is so deep that they could still offer up an “overpayment” and still have a comfortable prospect pool. I don’t think Chad’s proposal is really strong enough….
Realistically you’d probably be looking at a 1st round pick + top prospect + immediate contributor. So maybe something like:
11th overall + Rosen and either Johnson or Krebs
Or 2025 1st + Savoie and either Johnson or Krebs.
It’d be a tough pill to swallow but for a cost controlled 60+ point C with strong metrics and a center spine of Thompson/Cozens/Strome locked down long term, I think it’d be worth it.

Now that you said it, it’s on our radar and therefore won’t happen…
