Islanders are one of 9 teams in the league that won’t be affected by the CapFriendly purchase.
Friedman names teams that have something when CapFriendly goes offline (32TP): Seattle, New Jersey, Carolina, Chicago, Islanders, Toronto, Columbus. Pittsburgh didn't have anything before, but once Dubas got there they started building something.

Can someone kindly explain this to me like I’m 5?
Because Lou subscribes to CapHostile™
Lou still uses an abacus to determine cap.
The Capitals are probably the dumbest team in the NHL for pulling this stunt.
There will be another website in a few years time max that will do all the things CapFriendly did. CapFriendly also absorbed CapGeek in the early days, so it’s not like only the Dev’s at CapFriendly are like the sole innovators on the internet that care about hockey contracts.
Buying a website and shutting it down hoping that it will slow down front offices enough for maybe a year is not enough time for you to plan out the future of your franchise. If not for the genius of Trotz and the generational talent of Ovie drawing people to want to play with him, the Caps would still be a poverty franchise.
In the age where AI is rapidly growing, and the wayback machine exists, this is probably the most pointless expenditure of money in sports for the next few weeks until the UFAs hit the market.
It’s my understanding that Islanders actually have a decent data department. They don’t act that way sometimes though.
