  1. He's not worth what he's reportedly asking, and not by a LONG shot. He's making around what he's worth from what I can tell. In no way is he a difference maker, for he's unable to anchor a 2nd pairing. He's an awkward skater, not to mention slow, and where did that shot of his go? The team holds all the cards with him still as an RFA.

  2. Blake gained my respect here. Sekeres is thinking regular season, which is limited thinking. Hronek is good in regular season, whereas Zadorov is made for tough playoff hockey, which is all we Canuck fans really care about now. Sign the bigs like Z, Myers and Joshua and then see what else you can do.

  3. They need to trade Hronek and get a scoring winger. Sign Joshua and Big Z. If Meyers signs at a hometown discount, that would be great.

  4. I agree and disagree with Blake. Hronek is not an 8 million dollar dman, anything over 7 and I would move him. To suggest Zadorov at 6 per over 5 is insane or willing to pay Montour, Pesce 7 or 8 per on multiple year deals screams Benning management. Pesce just had his worst statistical season and was dealing with injuries, Montour dipped nearly 30 points in production.

I would consider up to a shade over 5 for Zadorov. I would try and use Hronek in a trade for a dynamic forward (Necas) maybe a package deal of Hronek, Mikheyev for Necas and Kotkaniemi.

Resign Myers, target Matt Roy in free agency, trade for Jokiharju in Buffalo (Maybe a deal centered around suter) and Resign Joshua.

  5. Stop calling him a top pairing Dman. He's a #4 on a contending team. He's a general purpose utility RHD, good for 40ish points who tends to fade hard as season progresses. He's in the 5.5-6m range, max. Isn't big, doesn't play big, has a bit of jam, but that's about it. Pad his points next season and flip him before the deadline. Nucks already have a boat anchor contract on the books.

  6. Trade, trade… trade.
Its due to the attitude we just seen at the press conference.
The Pettersson contract should highlight the issue with smaller guys when it comes to building a stanley cup team. Some guys get hot, passionate and with the right attitude like Miller, Boeser and a good coach can steer that into warrior like effort. The snarky, cocky, whiney, victim type attitude doesnt translate to team culture and winning when it counts.

  7. Do you guys think the numbers line up if you donā€™t sign Hronekā€¦ could you sign Zadorov and Joshua? I think that would be the way to go where the Canucks are right now.

  8. Part of the reason Hronek gets hit a lot is because of how often receives panic passes when Hughes is under pressure and gets to eat the boards as a result. I don't think we got to see the full potential of Hronek yet and won't until he drives his own pairing. I like the swagger Zadorov brings to this team that they really don't have without him. I want Myers back too, but only after a hefty pay cut.

  9. I know these stats aren't perfect. But after hearing a Detroit fan talk about how he usually drops off in the second half I did the research based on months. Here it is… 2024 1st half, 36 games 2-27-29 vs 2nd half, 32 games 2-10-12 … 2023 1st half, 35 games 7-19-26 vs 2nd half, 29 games 2-11-13 … 2022 1st half, 30 games 3-13-16 vs 2nd half, 34 games 1-15-16 … 2021 DNP until January – 1st 36 games 2-19-21 vs last 19 games 0-5-5 …2020 1st half, 39 games 8-14-22 vs 2nd half, 26 games 1-8-9. As you can see, it's clearly evident, that Hronek has always been a better player earlier in the season.

  10. I keep saying that Hronek was deployed wrong by Toccket.
Watch the playoffs. He was being used as a stay at home guard for Quinn Hughes so that he could create. They essentially turned him into a Luke Schenn but without the physicality.
If you were to keep Hronek he would have to be allowed to play a 2 way game. I honestly think a combination of him and Zadorov would work.
Sign a cheap mobile rear guard for Hughes like Luke Schenn and that first pairing works while allowing for a good second pairing.
Do not pay Hronek anymore than 7 though.

  11. If Hronek can't understand what playing with Quinn Hughes has done for HIS career, then, he's too stupid to be a player on a winning team anyway. He has to MAN UP, admit how LUCKY he is to be 'here, now, paired with this guy', and accept a salary that doesn't screw the team out of its salary structure or competitiveness. IF he can't do that, let him walk. He's already acting like an A-hole to J.Pat and other reporters, insists he couldn't "figure out" why his 2nd half was so poor; then let him BRING THAT attitude to the arbitration hearing.
