[Rodier] Sources: the June 27 land auction in Phoenix already has 4 bidders registered including Meruelo. That means there will be at least 3 bidders against Meruelo, and maybe more as there is still plenty of time for others to register. Should be interesting.

Personally, the sooner Meruelo fails, the sooner other parties may start looking into expanding back into AZ. He doesnt get to keep the rights for the full 5 (or whatever it was) years if he fails to show arena progress.

If we do get a team back, we dont want the Meruelo family anywhere near it.

I also know for a fact that his betting platform doesnt generate enough revenue to offset the losses that the roadrunners operate at (especially since they are likely to lose their team affiliation in 2 seasons), so if he fails here, it would be ridiculous to keep holding on just for the gambling license.

This feels as relevant as the whole “the number will approach $150 million!” tweets that were going around. It’s an auction, and we have no idea how it will go. Who these other people are and what their plans might be are unknown.

Also, an aside- it seems completely bullshit that the state process is Meruelo goes and does all the legwork to ask to purchase and get appraisals done, and then it goes to an auction where anyone can take it out from under him
