2023-24 Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins Season Review

After a relatively successful 2023-24 #AHL season for the #WBSPenguins, the team faces a bit of a transition next season with a series major junior and NCAA player signings and a new coach–and potentially new strategy–to help with the development of #PittsburghPenguins prospects. Some good, bad and ugly from the campaign:

The Good:
• Top prospects Joel Blomqvist and Sam Poulin continued to trend in the right direction 📈 and look close being NHL-ready
• Prospects with some pedigree like Ville Koivunen and Tristan Broz look to bolster 💪 the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton lineup next season

The Bad:
• Signing a group of fringe NHL and veteran AHL players potentially limited opportunity for some prospects ready for a bigger role like Corey Andonovski and Lukas Svejkovsky 🚫
• After a significant jump in development Jack St. Ivany looked capable at the NHL level 💥 while offensive defenseman Ty Smith never got a look in Pittsburgh in 2023-24

The Ugly:
• After being traded, once highly-touted prospects Alex Nylander and Ty Smith both expressed being frustrated with the lack of opportunity at the NHL level
• The team decided to let head coach J.D. Forrest go after four seasons 👋, signaling a continued change in direction for developing prospects
