Patrik Laine on the trade block?: 5 possible landing spots

I get the risk involved, but I feel like you have to do this deal if this is all it takes https://bvmsports.com/2024/06/13/patrik-laine-on-the-trade-block-5-possible-landing-spots/

I thought we, as a culture, moved on from articles formatted as pages you have to keep hitting “next” on

  2. I’d be willing to spend a bit more for them to retain so money too. Only 2 years left on his contract, so the risk isn’t that big. The upside is huge.

  3. I would 100% move holtz for laine. Laine is a huge question mark but this is the kinda move that can put us closer to contending. It works out great we have a elite scorer. It doesnt we gave up a player who hasnt really lived up to draft status. I dont see holtz turning into a 40/50 goal scorer. Laine is the best version of holtz possible.

We have bigger holes to fill, but if the price is going to be that low, can’t hurt to kick the tires on a deal.

I wouldn’t take him at full cap hit for free. Half retained or something it becomes very interesting but still completely unnecessary for this roster. Laine is the opposite of a “need” for the devils.

I know his cap hit but that seems like a nothingbuger package

Dude hasn’t played more than 56 games since the 2019-2020 season, where he played 68. Hard pass.

(I might be a little biased because I had him on a couple fantasy teams and he screwed my roster big time)

He’s a lazy player who cannot play a full season.

    I would pass.

His stock has plummeted. I want nothing to do with him.

PL and PLD are two of the most disappointing top draft picks that weren’t just busts. They actually have the talent to be good but effort and consistency just make them forgettable

Yeah Ill happily pass on him. Especially if the cost is Gritsyuk. Everyone focused on his potential goal scoring without realizing he hasnt been a 30 goal guy since 2019 because he cant even play more than 56 games a season.

He’s basically a better version of Devils’ Kyle Palmieri who gets injured even more often.

Ill pass we have enough guys who cant stay healthy as it is.

I feel Laine is gonna bounce back in a huge way, but I don’t think I would wanna be the one to find out if it happens or not.

Nah I feel like we tell Columbus to kick rocks and keep him as far away from our locker room as we can

With the right team culture a Laine add could be absolutely massive. I think a lot of people are forgetting that Laine is one of the most naturally talented goal scorers in the league. He has struggled with consistency over recent years but he has always tracked at least a 30ish goal pace, and he has (or had) the skillset to easily pot 40+ *if* he can stay physically and mentally healthy. The lingering effects of concussions may be another question mark. I think if it can happen anywhere in the league it can happen here, under a captain like Nico and playing on Jack’s wing.

It’s a massive gamble that the Devils shouldn’t sell the farm to make happen. Retention would sweeten the pot and may even be critical to a deal. At the same time, I think Columbus will be trying to sell Laine based on his pedigree rather than his recent performance, so the gap may just be too wide to get a deal done.

That would be…insanely cheap. But that cap hit….

I’m not clicking on that article lol.

But if the trade doesn’t cost much, and the jackets retain salary I’d do it. Low risk, high reward toffoli replacement. Not our biggest need but it helps

Arseni who and a bag of practice pucks? I’ll take that trade all day. Question is what does that do to our salary cap?
