What do we think it would take to land Ottawa’s 7th pick?
Let’s pretend the rumours are true that the draft is shaping up to go Celebrini, Levshunov, Silayev, Lindstrom, Demidov. If we could trade into Ottawa’s 7th overall spot, I would love to see us draft Iginla as well. I think he’ll be an absolute stud in the league and a playoff warrior.
Caufield-Suzuki-Slafkovsky
Iginla-Dach-Demidov
Newhook-Beck-Roy
This lineup would feed families. I don’t even know who of the top six would be left off the top PP line. Good balance of size and skill.
Ottawa is trying to open a playoff window, so I don’t think draft picks mean a whole lot to them. I think a piece of the ask would be similar to Anaheim’s ask of Guhle or Reinbacher. I love both of these players and think they are huge pillars of our soon-to-be elite defensive core, but given the excess of young defencemen, would you be okay with moving one of them to bolster our forward group? I’d strongly consider Guhle + 26th overall to move up and land Iginla. I’m a big Matheson fan, but I would certainly consider moving him if that is what Ottawa wants instead.
Odds we trade into 7th overall are slim to none, but I think it would be a huge power move and we would immediately round out our core forward group.

They’d probably be looking for Reinbacher or Guhle if they were going to trade with us. They’re likely going to take a defenseman that’s a few years away from chipping in, so they’ll likely target a more NHL ready defense asset.
They need RHD, we don’t have those.
If we do that I hope it’s for catton.
Not going to happen but imagine having the 5th , 7th and 10th picks in this year’s draft
/r/Habs dream top 6:
Necas – Zegras – Laine
5th OVR- 7th OVR – 10th OVR
WPG 1st, Harris and/or Barron, Farrell or Mesar, Norlinder.
Give them one NHL ready and one developing D prospect, and shoe in Farrell or Mesar with the late 1st to match value (so to speak).
it was said at a STH meeting, and the people at the event did not get the impression they were going to trade it
it’s just being misinterpreted by media members for some clicks
They are going to want Reinbacher or Guhle. Not the time to trade either of those guys. If they are traded it needs to be a bonafide top line scorer.
If they want matheson plus 26th hell yes, doubt they say yes to that though. Guhle is a no-go, unless it’s maybe 1 for 1. We are (hopefully) nearing the end of the rebuild so I don’t know if Kent would want to sacrifice someone entering their mid 20s for a guy who won’t be big piece for probably 5 years.
Honestly, if it’s Guhle they want, I’m pulling the trigger.
We could pick up a guy like Buium or Dickinson, which have a lot more upside, and still draft a high-end forward.
these clowns traded a top 10 picks 2 years ago and regretted it
No way we trade with Ottawa.
Hmmm guhle for 7th overall.
Lets say you draft buium or dickinson with that pick and with the 5th you get demidov. That sounds pretty interesting on paper for the 7th overall but its tough to make the call you will play vs guhle for the next few seasons and if he pans out to be a 1st pair dman on the sens and produce 40-50 points per year while you drafted a bust that will be for sure a tough one to swallow
Would’ve been able to get a landslide steal if Dorion was still around smh. Doubt we’re able to do it now without an overpay, but I’d love to have another pick in the top 10.
It would be too expensive. Better off hoping iginla or sennecke drop like crazy and we trade for like the 15 or 16th pick. Thats the only scenario I can see where that lineup becomes a reality without sacrificing an important part of the future.
Would be much easier and cost less to trade the Wpg 1st + and snag Eiserman. Coming out of this draft with those 2 plus whatever else with remaining picks (plus current prospect pool) has me seriously and confidently thinking we are contending in 3 years
lol what
There opened to do so cause there gonna have another 7th overall pick next year
