To all concerned about Lindstrom’s injury

I recommend listening to the full clip (first 4 minutes of the podcast) as Pronman actually discusses the general optimism surrounding his injury. The way he mentions the herniatic disc makes it seem like it's been a known commodity to teams for a while. Not saying there's no reason to be worried but teams know a lot more about this than we do and concerns are at an all time low.

  1. Yea I thought from that last thread that he was doing donezo but that look incredibly optimistic here? What am I missing?

I mean of all the back issues herniated disc is not the one you want.

Didn’t he have another injury as well? I played with guys who always seemed to have a cast and other people seem to be able to get hit by a truck and keep playing like Happy Gilmore.

Then again we got Monahan for a song and a draft pick for the same reason, but that was low risk in a rebuild.

  4. I would be very surprised if Habs even have a chance to draft him, fully expecting him picked at 4

  5. I hope it makes Colombus take somebody else so we can draft him.

I feel like it ain’t a severe one, otherwise he wouldn’t be doing pull ups at the combine if it was major. Columbus will take him 4th overall.

Yeah it doesn’t appear like it’ll stop anyone from taking him high, the combine seems to have helped reassure teams.

I’m sure our shiny new medical staff will be consulted

  9. I was so high on Lindstrom since the start of the year and the more I learn about his problems, the less I want him. That really sucks for us. The kid is gonna get drafted for sure but damn that’s corcerning.

I don’t want to compare apples to oranges, but Lindstrom’s case reminds me of Nolan Patrick.

    Nolan Patrick’s DY stats(drafted 2nd overall in 2017) :
6’2, C, 46 points in 33 games in the WHL.

Season cut short because he suffered concussions.

Cayden Lindstrom’s DY stats : 6’3, C, 46 points in 32 games in the WHL.

Season cut short because of hand and back injuries.

Partrick suffered from migraines, but he never became more than a third line center even when relatively healthy. He was picked before Petterson, Makar, Heiskanen, Robertson and many more… I’m just pointing out the similarities.

The misinformation in this sub about what a herniated disc actually is, the prognosis, and treatment is huge. I would suggest before making judgements people read online.

Terminology for back pain has changed. We often call a herniated disc – pattern 1 back pain. Even a high grade herniation (complete protrusion) is most often treatable with simple physio therapy and strengthening.

Without knowing all the details it is likely that this is completely fixable with simple measures and preventable in the future with a proper training and strengthening regimen.
