This team has known for 3+ years now, that they need a tested and tempered #1 goalie. This was the second trade deadline in a row, that they completely ignore that issue, and this is the result. This guy hasn't come even close to stealing a game that Edmonton should have lost, not even one, which is what true playoff goalies have to do on occasion.
To try and point to Canucks G7 without Boeser or Demko, would be hilarious.
This roster is done, and will start to come apart next season, as I cannot see Draisaitl wanting to stay here, nor Edmonton wanting to pay his sure to be $13.5M AAV. With Draisaitl walking or being traded, I don't see McDavid hanging around after his contract is up either. That may not be a bad thing either, as top heavy teams, go nowhere in the playoffs.

Mistakes cost the cup, and the Oilers are making too many from the same players. No way to explain around the fact that poor goaltending cost the team the cup this year. Can't even say that there was a consistent showing of skill on the defensive side, just randomness. Really really hard to see tonights game tilted because of mistakes. I have always said we need an NHL calibre starter in the playoffs. Team Defense gives up too many quality chances. 18 shots 14 saves doesn't win championships.
Skinner is young. He needs to be with a team that's growing like the Sharks. The Oilers are at a point in their NHL life cycle where they need a Vezina calibre goalie. Holland may have been incredibly lucky that he bagged a $2M goalie to get him to the promiseland. But as with any young and inexperienced $2M goalie who has never experienced months and seasons of sheer heart break and pain, he truly doesn't understand what winning really means. The Oilers got kicked off the promiseland as fast as they arrived. Is it all Skinner's fault? Of course not. But Skinner's youth, inexperience and lack of pain hasn't taught him how unrelenting, vicious and hungry he needs to be to win the Stanley Cup.
Panthers have been contenders for years, forced to refine their team players and strategy each year , to beat the best teams of the east, to make it to the cup finals. The oilers must go thru the same process. Hopefully they get rid of non play off performers, bring playoff performers on, refine their strategy to compete vs the west best teams and to beat a panthers type team, then they will be able to beat any team, as the panthers have developed into.

I use to play goal competitively. I have let in goals like Skinner and guess what, I never made it past Junior. There is no way that you can allow so many soft goals against in the Stanely Cup final. Bobrovsky has been making those saves the whole playoff and last playoff. So tired of everyone blaming the D or the forwards. The whole point of having a goalie is to make up for the hundreds of mistakes made on the ice by forwards and d men. It isn’t as if every goal against Skinner is a 3 on 1 with tac tack toe passes. Quit making excuses for this guys poor play all playoffs.
