One of the obstacles in the Lightning’s mission this offseason to clear cap space is Conor Sheary. Sheary is coming off his inaugural season in Tampa Bay where there wasn’t much left to be desired. Sheary dealt with injury while not putting up much in the offensive department. Will the Lightning be able to deal Sheary this offseason or be left stuck with a weak piece while attempting to get back to playoff contention.

Grier and JBB have a solid rapport, and based on where SJ is right now, I definitely think he would be interested in Sheary for the right price (1-2 low picks). For all his flaws, is a 2x cup winner and having a undersized guy who has had solid years playing in the top six with good players would be a definite positive for a sharks team that has a lot of young/transient players. Worst case, the Sharks have plenty of cap space and can just waive Sheary if it doesn't work out. Either he gets claimed, reports, and in the event he doesn't report, they terminate him and let him go to Europe or wherever.
Speaking on the NTC, it basically means nothing for Sheary because he knows his time in the NHL might be over completely should be decide against playing ball when it comes time to waive, if necessary. If he doesn't want to cooperate (almost no chance he would risk this) JBB just calls the bluff and buries him. In that case, he can go hard on moving Cernak to a team like Philly, Buffalo or St. Louis for a roster player and/or a half decent pick.
JBB said he may need surgery this off-season, could we use his 2 mil AAV for LTIR? Not much but every little bit helps
The team needs to trade Sheary and Chernak (if he won't agree to a trade due to NTC, then move him to LTIR), thus freeing up space on the payroll to sign Stamkos. Offer Stamkos a 5-year, $6.5M per year contract. On offense, include Groshev, Huuhtanen, Duke. On defense – Lilleberg, Crozier, Gill
