He was the first true NHL superstar and an all time great for Montreal.

A sad end to a terrific career
Wowie Howie
Small correction: Lorne Chabot's last name is pronounced "Sha-bow." If you want confirmation, there's a video of the 4th game of the 1933 Stanley Cup Final between Toronto and New York, and Foster Hewitt says Chabot's name once or twice. I'd recommend giving it a watch, as it has interviews with many players from both teams during the intermissions.
This man is a Hockey Encyclopedia….. actually impressive how much Hockey Guy Knows
Morenz nicknamed the Stratford streak was from Stratford Ontario… the first star in the NHL and so loved in Montreal!
I just want to reiterate that I love these videos of older seasons and players. A joy to watch!
Morenz was my grandfather's favourite.
I'm hesitantly looking forward to your coverage of Bernie Geoffrion's career. Dying on the morning they raise his jersey to the rafters is the stuff rejected scripts are made of…
That's an underrated Habs sweater. It'd be cool to see the bring it back as a 3rd or a Heritage jersey
I believe Boom Boom Geoffrion married Morenz's daughter.
Little known fact: when they closed the fabled Forum in 1996, the date the Canadiens picked for the final game, March 11 1996, was the 59th anniversary of Howie Morenz's funeral at the Forum in 1937.
He died of a broken heart after learning he wouldn't play hockey again.
And now they've given his number to a fkin twitch streamer.
Gretzky did a great piece about Howie Morenz in his book. Good stuff.
Great video. I heard of him before. I didn't know how it ended, though. Wow.
rest in peace Howie Morenz. A legend of hockey that will always be part of Canadiens history.
He was also a trend setter, being one of the first superstars, past his prime, getting picked up by the NY Rangers.
Howie Morenz, first retired number for the Montréal Canadiens and it was kinda poetic that it was number 7 ! Also his exhibition game in New-York is pretty much the reason why they have team now…the owner was so impressed by the game that he wanted one after witnessing the talent of Morenz !
Nice sweater!
Crazy Montreal ever had a logo (on your cap) that looks more like a Leafs logo.
It would be interesting to see a trade tree for that first Morenz trade.
I just passed through his hometown of Mitchell, Ontario today. And I know that because they have his name on the entry sign haha.
I love those sweaters from their team store…I just ordered my third one…they did a nice job with them…really enjoy them.
The word back in the days is that he died from a broken heart when he realized he couldn't play the game he loved anymore
I didn't expect the video to end like that. Geez.
