  1. Canucks fans really really do NOT want Patrick Laine. Jake Guentzel is a better choice. There’s also rumours Laine is a toxic person in the locker room.

We struck gold with Artur Silovs doing a good job. He and Demko give solid goaltending!

  2. Everyone in the comments is saying no, but I’m saying yes. Our system and coach will get Laine back on his game. Surround him with talent and watch him score 40-50 goals again. Laine and Pettersson will be like Backstrom and Ovie. Trade him for Hronek and Mikheyev with some other variables added and we get to deal with a bunch of issues all at once and so does Columbus.

Edit: I would take Guentzel first, but if he doesn’t want to sign here for his cap request is 10+ mil then Laine is the next one I would go after. I would also try to get Toffoli and Tanev regardless.

  3. So Kuzmenko was gone for no reason for an off year now they are going for a Laine. They are taking the same steps back Wtf? I has no idea and Laine twice the amount compared to Kuzy.

  4. I've seen 200+ of Laine's games over the last 10 years (yes 10 years). And i can tell that there are few things that the team needs to do to get the best out of him. 1. They need a powerplay player who can dish consistent hard passes to his favourite spot. Doesn't matter where they come from, but they need to be consistent. It's been sad to see him on a PP where there isn't a single person who can do that (well Boquist could, but he is not on PP 1 and is constantly hurt). Gaudreau could, but they both like to play the same spot on PP thus you either deminish Gaudreaus skill or Laines shot.

    2. He is very average on many aspects 5 vs 5. He has average speed, average hands, average passing etc. The thing that makes him special is his shot, so the line that he is on should reflect that. He plaid very well with Ehlers, who has the speed and passing that benefits a player like Laine. He also plaid well with Voracek who didn't have the speed, but had the passing and ability to shelter the puck. He also plaid well with Stastny who could do a little bit of everything. He ofc plaid extremely well with Aho, who is like Stastny but at least 2 levels above him.

    3. If a team wants full value out of him here are some linecombos that i think he would do extremely well in: Ehlers-Aho-Laine, Rust-Crosby-Laine, Kane-Larkin-Laine, Hall-Bedard-Laine. I'm not that familiar with Canucks players that i could say definitively what combo would be best for them, but at least Pettersson has the passing that would really benefit Laine.

  5. I look at his prior work record and see he really has done nothing. I was bad for thinking Michaev was going to have good returns for us and man was I wrong. I can see the same thing here. To me he is a huge risk. What is the chance he plays great for us? Where has he blown the doors off? Perhaps a very motivated Patrick could swing the tide.. There was a game or two several years ago where I thought he looked like he could be the best player in the world.. Once in a blue moon it happens.. I think the staff can work wonders with defensemen but not sure about Laine.

  6. Depending on price he would provide scoring, something the Canucks are lacking when the chips are down.

  7. If I’m the CBJ i remind everyone they are not forced to trade Laine. Make him play and show his value and produce. See what the season looks like and deal him after his stock rises and he puts in the work for the team that gave him the contract he has. No need to move him. If he pulls a Dubois, let him sit and lose his pay.

  8. I wonder if we could get Laine and get Kent Johnson thrown in and send Mikayev back. That would save CBJ about 4$ mill for 2 years. Might be a win win

  9. JT Miller would knock this guy out day 1 and put him on a bus to Abbotsford. Miller wouldn’t let this cancer in the locker room.

  10. What if the Canucks could dump Poolman's and Mikheyev's contracts and have 50% of Laine's contracted retained in a trade what does it look like then?

  11. -cons: Laine's way overpayed (9mill /per, incld. all the bonuses etc.), hasn't scored 30+ since he played for the Jets, doesn't play full seasons (average 50 games/per in last 5 seasons) , has never scored more pts. than games played in a season (*had 56 in 56, once; a career high)…
    -pro: he's still young-ish (26)
