I think we need to just ban anything Dreger says about Marner at this point. We all know he is the Marner camp mouthpiece and just saying whatever they want said in the media. If any actual news happens someone else will break it too.
Of course Marner would prefer an extension. The Leafs already overpaid for him once and he has no reason to think they won’t give him a raise. Also they are the only team that can offer him that 8th year. That will be a difference of over $10 million dollars on his overall contract if he stays put.
