Not making the playoffs and getting us out of a top 5 picks. Fun time to be a mtl fan
Hate the idea of trading Petry unless Price is done and it's full rebuild time but even then, if Price is done and you sign a good goalie, why not move forward with tons of money and good players?

We have 3 first round picks 12 overall and a lot of very good prospects. We do not need to trade these guys why is everyone so ready to dismantle this team .
I think Montreal needs to focus on moving these guys out for some more 1st RD picks and some defensive prospect, we have a decent prospect pool on D but it needs to be better, there's a few 1st round D men available this year, so hopefully we're able to get more picks for this year, next years draft is more offensive, I understand that this win streak is nice, but by the time this team is actually capable and developed, Petry will be way too old and Chariot will be getting up there too, move them now for the future.
Ben tradded before trade line… Petry this summer for a 2023 draft pick
My opinion: price will never play hockey again. Good time to trade petry since he's now playing better and played like a beast last year. Can also trade chariot because of his contract=easely tradable for a top 10 team, if we keep him I'm also good with that. Keep Leckonen, we need guys with character to help the young guys. Suzuki next captain for the habs, gallager already looks older than his actual age, not a good sign. Hot take: if allen wants to stay, theres no need to TRADE for a goalie in short term, but probably gonna need to draft a goalie soon, or eventually in 3-5 years trade for one, when the team is ready to win. But we lack at least one top 3 young foward and one top 2 def before even considering making the playoffs
That's the Mtl style, not a chance to be in the playoffs? Ok let's be in the middle…
I was under the impression it was a done deal with him wanting to leave due to his family situation. If his family doesn't want to live in MTL that's fine, move him but if not and he keeps playing well I would keep him unless you absolutely gets what he's worth (or a bit less) since we can afford to lose a bit of value to obtain assets that fit the team plan long term, or chances at picks for those players.
For all his faults, Petry is still to me a top pairing D and has given us many good years. I always had a man crush on him as a hockey player. He's such a smooth skater, with size, strength and a shot as well as the very uncommon but oh satisfying hard hip check. We're gonna miss the beautiful man short term (no not Chiarot lol) but hopefully the new young fast and talented core we're going for pans out
Lastly, maybe the biggest factor for Petry's value and decision is the return of Edmundson which is still hazy.
smh MTL fans are having one bad year and are trying to go full rebuild. its all in the coaching we have the scoring abilities in Hoffman, Gallagher, Anderson, Caufield great playmaking abilities in Drouin, Pitlick, Suzuki and defensive play in Byron, Armia, Evans trade smo like Dvorak, Lehkonen, Chariot, Allen and possible Petry and fetch as much picks and prospects possible. If not dont go rebuild mode instead get your 1rst round picks and Trade players for players and move big money on mtl for more cap space and get smo big in free agency probably a top pair dman or center winger (rakell?)
