Paul Maurice, Stanley Cup Final Postgame: Edmonton Oilers 5, Florida Panthers 3 (Game 5)

The Panthers have dropped the past two games but remain a win away from the Stanley Cup and holds a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.

Game 6 of the Cup Final is Friday at 8 p.m. (ABC) in Edmonton.

Edmonton took a 3-0 lead by the second before the Panthers started coming back. Matthew Tkachuk made it 3-1, with Evan Rodrigues making it 4-2 after 40. Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored 5 minutes into the third, but Connor McDavid ended with two goals and four points including an empty-netter to ice the game.

  1. As Paul said (paraphrasing): “We were thinking about how we were going to win Game 7”. Don’t let any loss deter you, because it could be 3-2 Edmonton and that still wouldn’t be an excuse to not play a full game and win. Whatever the odds are either way.

  2. Stay out of the Penalty box! You have the dirtiest team in the NHL! The only way you stay out of the box is with a dirty Ref!

  3. I would love it if this smug douche bag and his team made history and blew this series. It would be fitting of the coach with the most active losses of any NHL coach. He is insufferable

  4. 13 goals allowed in 2 games. That's totally not panther hockey. If this continues in game 6, Florida is in trouble. PP is a disaster, and giving goals away doesn't help. Give oilers credit, they didn't fold.

  5. That is as tight & frustrated as we've seen Maurice in over 2 years.

    Guaranteed he will be doubly relaxed tomorrow to try and set an example of calm composure, but this is the real, raw version of him. Hes worried
