Remember when Marian Hossa developed a mysterious skin allergy, which allegedly made it too painful to put on his equipment, but which none of the journos covering the team (who saw him shirtless daily) ever noticed? And remember that this allergy mysteriously coincided with this salary dropping to near league-minimum?
Nick Robertson, Farabee, Kaliyev, Rossi, Perfetti, Holtz, Krebs, Kent Johnson, Morgan Frost, Dorofeyev, Berggren, Tomasino, Egor Afanasyev, Crouse, Cody Glass, all young players with varying degrees of trade buzz, they all fit dubas’s “young players” goal, we just might not have the assets to acquire them. Mangiapane? Good player but really feels like the type of periphery, “tinker around the edges” move that leads Malkin to another career worst year and makes us miss the playoffs again. Dubas needs to be prepared to move Pickering in my opinion. Moving Pickering for a young player whose just a little bit farther down the development road doesn’t go against the penguins short or long term goals in my opinion

I read this about Mangiapane yesterday and I don't know. He had one good season with 35 goals a couple of seasons ago, but has dropped off significantly. I wouldn't hate it, but he definitely would not be my first option. I think there are better options available, but I certainly wouldn't hate it but only if it's for the right price.
You guys are right, the 2008 team that didnt win the cup, I think was on paper better, but that Red Wings team was just a monster as you described. Pavel Datsyuk was all over Evgeni Malkin in that series and MAF was the only reason that series went to a sixth game, because he literally stood on his head in game 5 when the Pens in in 3OT. That Red Wings team was really good and they skated circles around The Penguins. The Pens got a hard lesson in that series, but came back the next year and got the job done.
i think pens should push for igor shivagosha from flames insted hes the player i like and more a shooter and finshers type player with a good cap hit
At that cap hit, no way to mangiapane. The flames do have a young prospect who is close to nhl ready in matt coronato. If dubas wants young prospects who are close or even might be a nhler next season. Coronato is who I trade for
