Over its 105-year lifespan, the National Hockey League has seen plenty of one-season wonders, and while most of these players will keep up their surprising play for an entire season, some players will score a crazy amount of points or stop an obscene numbers of pucks for a few weeks or months before returning to their previous play for the rest of the year.
However, one player produced the greatest mid-season performance the league has ever seen…
This is the story of when Andrew ‘The Hamburglar’ Hammond dominated the NHL!

It reminds me of Linsanity in the NBA
Still have my Hamburglar jersey.
Hammond dragged Iowa to its first playoff series in its existence.
legend.
Man I don't know what NJ put in his water but he looked so unlike himself when he wore the Devils jersey
It's too bad his play entirely fell apart in the playoffs
Great video 📹.
I got a stick from him when he was in Iowa in the AHL. Great guy
Man it was so much fun to watch this run. I think we all knew it wouldn’t last but it was sure impressive
What it is your favourite EIHL (British league) team?
I blame Ottawa for Hammonds downfall. Clearly showed potential in that first season and even his second season he had pretty good stats. Should’ve hung on to him or traded him to a team where he could flourish. Sad 🙁
I had the privilege of watching him play for the Vernon vipers his final year he was basically unbeatable during the playoffs posted a 1.50 GAA and .946 save percentage which he led the Vernon vipers to the national championship which he posted a shutout in the championship game and when he went on this run our little town was going crazy!
Jeremy Lin of the NHL
It´s weird he didn´t get drafted. Amazing goalie in his teens.
I have a plastic hamburger on my hockey shelf in memory of this wild ride. go sens go
heroes get remembered, but legends never die
As an Ottawa fan, this is one of my favourite stories and I remember seeing him when this was happening. So much fun
Lol he never changed the wild pads out, legend
Habs legend
Colorado Avalanche playoff legend
White rock BC represent 🤙🏻
Unforgettable season, will always have a soft spot for the Hamburglar #gosensgo
Funny thing- Craig Andersson still playing
…. Aaaand he was cut from his KHL team 😩
He was destined to fail right from the very beginning. Nothing more than an AHL goaltender had Ottawa’s goaltenders (Anderson and Lehner) stayed healthy
James Marriot making NHL videos now?
I don’t blame him for being bad on the devils. Especially during that year
Hey bud. Want more views. Do a video on Arber Xhekaj.. from costco to the nhl . Trust me
that must have been some insane cocaine
Enjoy retirement Andrew, your run will forever live on in NHL lore
Wow, I remember my step dad telling that we got a new backup goalie at the time, I asked, "Is he going to be good?" good times ahah
That is why I am always optimistic around the Ottawa Senators a lot, they catch teams when they are not paying attention and surprise them, they are that good
