  1. With a good directional antenna, we were able to pick up these games on LA Channel 5 (KTLA), from San Diego…. followed late on Saturday Nights by "Seymour Presents".

  2. This game was played on October 22, 1967. It was Chicago's sixth game of the 1967-68 season–and their sixth loss. They didn't win until their eighth game of the season. Under the circumstances, was the Kings' win really a big upset?

  3. At about 3:17 when Dennis Hull drops the pass back behind the net, why didn't number 2 (Bill White maybe?) body check the King player chasing after Hull? He was just standing there watching the play.

  4. I think the reason it wthis game played off as an upset of sorts was that the Hawks had finished the previous season in 1st place but were upset by the Leafs in the last Original 6 playoffs in which Sawchuk was huge. This same season saw Iron Man goalie Glenn Hall taken by the St Louis Blues in the expansion draft. The Hawks would finish 4th in the Eastern Division this season then knock off the Rangers in the playoffs before being eliminated by teh Canadiens

  5. If I remember correctly Blackhawks goalie Denis DeJordy was traded to the Kings a few season later for goalie Gerry Desjardins and defensemen Bil White who was pretty solid.

  6. Grew up watching Jiggs MacDonald on the Islanders broadcasts. He still fills in on games occasionally. He sounds different here, but then he was much younger. Future Rangers Dale Rolfe and Ted irvine playing. And how about Paul Terbenche. What a name from the distant past. Also, people remember the infamous Phil Esposito trade like the Hawks got nothing in return, but they did get Pit Martin, who was a pretty nifty player who had some good years for the Hawks.

  7. Tony was playing in the Montreal Canadiens system for the WHL Vancouver Canucks during this particular season. He would be claimed by the Hawks prior to the '69-'70 season. The Blackhawks Goalies during this season ('67-'68) were Denis DeJordy & Dave Dryden…In Feb of 1970 the Blackhawks would trade DeJordy to the Kings in a 6 player deal..

  8. I liked the way that DeJordy snapped the puck out of his net when he was scored on.
That was the quickest he looked during the video.

  9. Just to let you know how bad the management of the Kings was back then, they traded for DeJordy and gave away Bill White. He should have been rookie of the year. This wasn't their worst, that was Larry Murphy.

  10. Great to see some time when real hockey was alive. I'm as an old hockey video collector want to see more games from 50-60's. Too many games from that period with Maple Leafs it is became too bored although it is not Maple Leafs fault of course. Just would be good to watch games without Toronto also. Alas this game from 1967 just a fragment and again from Leafs TV programm)))

  11. were the kings playing their home games at the Sports Arena at the time? they must have because this game is from 10-67, and their first game at the forum was 12-30-67.

  12. Soxogram Back then that would have been considered interference…and in general players didnt line up other players (like they do now) to take them out of the play or even the game. You watch enough of these games from the 60s and 70's and you will notice a big difference in the code of ethics when it comes to hits and bodychecking in general. Todays game is far more predatory and disrespectful of opposing players than it was. Back then you just didnt see the kind of intentional hits from behind, boarding, open ice charging and hits to the head as you do now.

  13. This was a kinescope of highlights from a local telecast going back to Los Angeles, but I'm surprised that Los Angeles televised any games from anywhere other than Oakland (or maybe their first-ever home game) during that 1967-68 season, given the huge (for that time) costs of leasing landlines to feed the game back across the country.

But Chicago had Bobby Hull, so that may have been the reason for the game getting telecast back to L.A.

  14. You have the Original Six (Montreal, Detroit, Toronto Boston, New York and Chicago)… then there was the Next Six…. Los Angeles, St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, California Golden Seals and Minnesota North Stars (today the Dallas Stars).

    The more you know!

  15. Just listened to Jiggs call the Kings/Panthers game tonight. What a treat. Had to come back to this game and listen to his magic 50 years ago. What a great announcer. He can sure paint a picture of what's happening.

  16. If anyone wants to know the reason why it took the Kings so long to win a Cup, the answer is here in this clip. Who would ever trade Bill White for Denis DeJordy!

  17. I love this clip! It's the only one I've ever seen of big No. 5 from the LA Kings, defenseman Dave Amadio. I was 1 or 2 years old when this game was played. If only he played in a later era, his NHL career would have been longer.

  18. Denis DeJordy.  I saw a game between the Kings and the Blackhawks at the Forum after
DeJordy became a Los Angeles King.  The Blackhawks were on a power play.  Bobby Hull, standing about 10 feet inside the blue line raised his stick.  Stan Mikita, fed him the puck.  Hull unleashed his fearsome slap shot.  I saw DeJordy duck as the puck flashed over his head and into the net.  I will never forget that.  I don't think he saw the puck.

After the game, I saw DeJordy smiling and smoking a big cigar.  Had he not ducked, he probably would have been carted off to the hospital.

Former Kings owner Jack Kent Cooke has a penchant for giving his players nicknames such as Eddie "the Jet" Joyal, Bill "Cowboy" Flett, Real "Frenchie" Lemieux, "Minnie" Minard, Juha "Whitey" Whiting", Bryan "Soupy" Campbell.  Those were good times at
    The Fabulous Forum.

  19. I loved it when the Hawks played those late games on the West Coast. I was able to stay up late because my Ma was hockey crazy. Which might explain why I'm watching a game from 52 years ago!

  20. Wow I cant believe as late as 1967 they still had a scoreboard that had a clock face rather than digital time.
