Should Toffoli still be a target?

Assuming we get Guentzel, should we also get Toffoli for Pettersson's other wing?

He's a top level finisher and would definitely benefit from both Petey and Guentzel, who are great playmakers/passers, on his line.

Sweetheart deal then yes. Tanev sweety too please

If we get Guentzel we’ll have money to rebuild our blueline and not much else. A second winger would likely be someone half the price of Toffoli

I’m really not interested in bringing Toffoli in. He’s going to cost 5ish mil with some term.

I think he brings down our speed in the top 6 too much. Petey Miller Boeser Toffoli isn’t going to help our ability to attack of the rush and push defenders back.

Miller and Petey play at an average speed (not slow but not necessarily fast either) but Toffoli and Boeser are definitely on the slower side (they’re actually very similar players).

  4. I think if there’s room with our remaining cap then by all means. Hoglander works better grinding things out on the bottom six and was ineffective in the playoffs with Petey. The question is how much Toffoli wants in free agency and how much we have left after Guentzel IF we get him

The Canucks only have about 18.5M in free cap space remaining after the Hronek re-signing. If the Canucks sign Guentzel, according to rumoured prices, it’s 9M+, which would leave Vancouver with only about 9M left.

With that 9M they still need to fill:

    1x 3rd-line centre
    2x Bottom-6 forwards
    1x Top-4 defenseman
    2x Top-6 defenseman
    1x Backup Goalie

Toffoli is not a viable option if Guentzel signs, he’s going to earn between 5M-6M. They already have Hoglander who worked well in the Top-6 last season alongside Petey. If a second top-six winger is to be signed, it’s likely a buy-low option like Vrana to play with Miller/Boeser.

There are other things they could do to make cap space, moving out Mikheyev is obviously being discussed, but that’s easier said than done at this time of year. Another option would be trading Garland, but then you’d need to replace him on the 3rd line and that’s going to cost 3M-4M for a quality option anyway. Still, I don’t think Toffoli would be a target.

If we could get him for like a 3×3. Someone will probably sign him for a 4×2.

the jump from the 21-22 season to 22-23 is doing a lot of heavy lifting in those stats. tbf, there’s a reason jets fans don’t want him back. his foot speed is slowing down, and for a guy who already had average/below average speed, it’s just gonna get worse. at what point will his hockey iq not be able to make up the difference?

  8. intelligentx5

We have Boeser. Boeser has evolved in to what I think is a more defensively responsible Toffoli. But I think we can only afford one slow’ish high IQ scoring winger.

    We need speed and scoring.

    If only Mikheyev….

For the right price that depth at forward would sure be swell. Love to have tanec huge too

  10. bossygal32

Yep but he won’t sign we dropped the ball trying to resign him

If they could move one of Mikheyev/Garland out of the bottom/middle-6, and then sign Toffoli around $5 x 2 to play in the top-6 that sequencing could work.

Without moving out salary, I don’t know if you have ~15 million to spend on Guentzel & Toffoli.

Nostalgia is a heck of a drug. He would be too expensive.

  13. Good player but too old to make a difference through attrition of playoffs not to mention full season

  14. ebb_omega

People acting like Zadorov and Myers weren’t key pieces to our team’s success this year.

We can’t just completely decimate our d-core and expect a bunch of expensive wingers to pick up the slack.

  15. TheFriendlyBagel

Probably not. He doesn’t match our window and he’s primed to drop off. Not like he’s gonna come cheap either.

  16. Adventurous_Ad_9557

I like Tyler but no, too slow. looks like the Canucks are focusing on big Z, Jake Guentzel, Myers finding someone speedy

  17. Anishinabeg

What’s with people just wanting to bring back former players?

  18. unbannedcoug

I like Toff but I think we missed the boat on that. The energy that group had finally going to some kind of post season only to be demolished by Benning’s ineptitude to conjure up anything sustainable for his team kinda killed the whole vibe. For all those players Tanev included

  19. Tiger23sun

I like him but I think at his age and his lack of skating/speed its a pass.

Should we consider toffoli?! We never should’ve let him walk for 4ish M, years ago. Dude had so much chemistry with Miller/horvat and even Petey. He fucking continued to rip it up with the hopeless Habs and thereafter. Pisses me off to this day. We gave up a bit to get him too and then we didn’t keep him for fucking peanuts, when he was worth more than what he ended up signing for. FFS SMH.

  21. Physics_Puzzleheaded

I might be in the minority but I really hope we don’t get Guentzel.

I would rather get 2 wingers like Joshua and Debrusk for the same or similar price.

  22. Maybe if we can afford to sign a second winger. I would prefer Guentzel since we will get more years out off him. I have looked at Teuvo Terevaäinen (spelling) as well.

  23. Toffoli is only an option if Guentzel doesn’t sign here.
