Use the $9.5 to get DeBrusk and his physicality, Arvidsson and re-sign Joshua for about $2M more than just Guentzel.

How are they not that "close to a cup". They went to game 7 in the second round with a team in the finals. They had the upper hand in that series without their goalie and without their best player playing well at all.. and without the leading scorer in game 7. They could have and probably should have beat Edmonton. The Canucks window is right now…. they might have another Hughes/Pettersson window a few years from now.. but there is a window RIGHT NOW and for the next probably 2 years.
Brock needs an extension, Demko the year after. Guentzel is an easy pass at that term. The canucks barely lost to the western conference champion Oilers without Pettersson, Demko and Boeser. They are contenders and close.
I want to believe that Guentzel having played with Crosby knows what it takes to be an effective player and stay in shape into their late 30s and maybe even early 40s.
take toffolli for half the price for half the length of time (both guentzel age 29 & toffoli age 32 are 30+ goal scorers, but neither are 40+ goal scorers anymore …but for that matter (like blake said) take marchessault @age 33 who just came off a full 82 game season & scored 42 goals! *& he's never earned over 5 million /per season in his whole career (underpaid / overachiever)
