It’s a weird thing where, I’d be the first person to tell you a premium 3rd pair defender costs about ~3-3.75 million/year, on a 2-3 year term.
But I am totally willing to throw that rationale out the window, because of how much of a unicorn Zadorov is.
He’s a player that you pay a premium for, but also hopefully you get a discount? I know this logic makes no sense.

He was traded for 3rd round pick twice at current contract which pretty much at his prime, now we wanna pay more for aging Zaddy at longer terms

Call it blind faith, but lately I just always expect this management team to surprise me in a good way. My whole adult life as a canucks fan has been waiting for things to not work out, but I feel the exact opposite now. I’m just waiting for them to announce the zadorov signing and for it to be at a more reasonable hit than many expect, follow that up with a mikheyev trade that also ends up being much more fair value than everyone is suggesting it would be. Then Joshua, and then Guentzel, and lastly a Myers sweetheart deal and all of a sudden we’re like, wow, they got a huge chunk of the team filled out and still have more money than we thought they would!
Wishful thinking, clearly, but for the first time in forever it feels like it’s OK to hope for the best .
