Calder Cup Finals Game 4: Hershey Bears vs. Coachella Valley Firebirds AHL P-B-P/Color 6-20-24

Game Story: The Game 4 Calder Cup Finals between the Hershey Bears and Coachella Valley Firebirds (hashtag#fuelthefire) had it all. Entertainment with American Idol winner and native Abi Carter who put on a show during intermission at Acrisure Arena, and lots of penalties too! See the coverage here.

Series Summary:

Game 1: CV W 4-3: A pair of goals in both the first and second periods enough to hold off the Bears. CV: John Hayden (SHG) and Ryan Winterton (2). CV takes five penalties. Chris Driedger only has to stop 16 of 19 shots in the victory. Joe Snively, Hardy Haman Aktell and Hendrix Lapierre (PP) each score for the Bears. Hershey takes four infractions in the loss. Team is beat up, but avoided the reverse sweep against the Cleveland Monsters. Hunter Shepard just 19 of 23 in the loss. How will the defending champs respond?

Game 2: HER W 5-2: Hershey scores in every period and overpowers Coachella Valley. HER: Hardy Haman Aktell (2) Pierrick Dube, Jimmy Huntington and Ivan Miroshnichenko all score. Both teams go 0-for-3 on the powerplay. CV gets quick goals in the second and third periods by Luke Henman and Marian Studenic but can’t add more. I see Winterton picks up another point. Hunter Shepard looks like his usual self as he stops 32 of 34. Chris Driedger has a second subpar game as he stops just 16 of 20 in the loss.

Game 3: CV W 6-2: As the series shifts in the 2-3-2 format to the Giant Center to Acrisure Arena it looked like the Firebirds were a different team on home ice. Captain Max McCormick (3), Lleyton Roed, Ryan Winterton and Shane Wright also score. Get four unanswered tallies after the Bears tie the game at 2-2 on efforts from Alex Limoges and Henrik Rybinski. I see an incorrect starting lineup bench minor served by Ethen Frank just 30 seconds into the game. PP stats HER 1-for-2; CV 1-for-3. Hunter Shepard pulled as he surrenders five goals! Goes 31 of 36 in the loss. Clay Stevenson stops the five shots he faced in relief. Chris Driedger had his best game of the series as he stops 22 of 24 shots. CV takes a 2-1 series lead. Winning on Thursday could seal the deal for the weekend. If Hershey wins, I may miss the end of the series, depending on the Stanley Cup Finals going to seven games, as both AHL Game 6 and NHL Game 7 are on Monday night.
