Ottawa Senators Pursuing Linus Ullmark + Boston Bruins Saved from Pierre-Luc Dubois?

The Linus Ullmark trade reports continue to swirl, with the Ottawa Senators perhaps being the most logical landing spot. In fact, there’s reports out of Ottawa that the Senators have intensified their pursuit of the Boston Bruins goaltender after Jacob Markstrom was traded to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday.

Locked on Boston Bruins host Ian McLaren breaks down the report, why it makes sense, and the aggressive package Don Sweeney might be requesting. The key might be whether Ullmark is willing to move to Ottawa.

Plus, Pierre-Luc Dubois was traded to the Washington Capitals for Darcy Kuemper, giving us a clue as to what a nixed Ullmark deal with the Los Angeles Kings may have looked like.

And is Jake DeBrusk going to move to Canada? The Calgary Flames make sense, but the Toronto Maple Leafs?

Finally, how the Bruins could reunite some old Flames pals in free agency.

  1. I think trading with the Senators is not the move. Most we can get is a first round draft pick and none of their players could be a 1 C

  2. Ullmark has the power to veto a trade to a bunch of teams, I think ALL of the Canadian teams are on his list. Why in the world would he want to go to the Senators of all teams? It seems he was so close to a Cup why oh WHY would he tale 30 steps backward toward that goal….

  3. forget chckrun, give us the two no. 1 picks for ullmrk and draft two high scoring forwards-forget anymore defensemen!give us debrincrat too!we should have drafted him instead of reach frederick!

  4. We don’t need depth players, go for the higher first round pick and no players. We’ve got players. We need new elite ones and we have no way to get them but the draft.

  5. I think there’s a a good potential of a trade here. But there are two viewpoints. If I’m Boston, I think Ullmark’s NHL success to-date and his youth definitely command a significant return. I agree think that it would have to come with some sort of contract extension. From the Ottawa perspective (and the reality league wide), only so many teams are in the market for a starting goalie. The limited market is why the return for goalies is lower than you would expect. It’s not that goalies aren’t desirable, the position is perhaps the most critical and important piece for almost every team. But only a handful of teams are looking for starting calibre goalies at one time and have the assets the deal and are desirable. Less than 5 teams.

So two of those teams now have their new goalies, leaving only two or three teams in a position to trade for Ullmark.

Boston may not get their asking price. They already may have waited too long.
