BREAKING: Arizona State Land Department Cancels Coyotes Land Auction

With just under a week to go until June 27, the Arizona State Land Department has cancelled the Coyotes land auction. ASLD recently confirmed that the proposed arena use will require a Special Use Permit and as a result, are requesting that Alex Meruelo receive it prior to the auction. What does this mean for the timeline? Will Meruelo still go through with everything in an effort to bring the Coyotes back to Arizona? Craig and Leah discuss on this emergency edition of the PHNX Hockey Podcast!

  1. Did anyone read the article?

As of Friday, only Miracle Development, LLC, was registered to bid on the tract of land on the northwest corner of the Loop 101 and Scottsdale Road near Desert Ridge Marketplace, according to PHNX Sports.

  2. Actually, from what I've heard this was also a bit on the state… but at the same time this could help the Yotes. It was starting to sound like there was going to be 4 bidders… but doing this delay and getting the permits… anyone who bid ALSO has to have the zoning permits in place… so the Yotes will see others coming.

  3. Craig Morgan is an absolute joke. If you want to know what's happening or reality, it's the complete opposite of what he's saying. Alex Murrello isn't just the fastest route to get hockey back, it's the ONLY way. Evidence is that the NHL made the right to reactivate exclusive to Alex. If he fails or goes away, Arizona has to wait for if, or when the NHL is in a position to expand. Then compete with other interested markets. With the history of the coyotes being "littered" with potholes as Bettman has lamented, would there be a desire to return? Also, would another ownership group be willing and able to spend billions getting an arena built, and then pay an expansion fee that will likely be around 2 billion, when's there's NO guarantee of getting a team? There's zero chance of the NHL coming back until an arena is built. Watch Craig's pods over the last few months. He called everyone who had opposite reporting "idiot uniformed trolls" And with the history of arena failure there, throws shade on Salt Lake…. an utter douchebag.

  4. hot take: Phoenix did this on purpose cause they have fully given up on the Coyotes. They are trying to make it as hard as possible for them to build the stadium.

  5. Hey if the stupid Arizona Coyotes have any hope of coming back to the NHL then they should hit up the City of Glendale to work something out on returning to Desert Diamond Arena or kiss them goodbye permanently! Unless if they get a new Arena either in Tucson or Flagstaff!

  6. Lol gonna be a long time before you see anyone willing I to gamble on this very suspect hockey market and be willing to risks losing hundreds of millions.
