Matheson as the core piece for Necas at least would make the Buium chatter make a little more sense.

I would definitely trade Matheson for Necas (or similar forward).
Matheson is great, could be here for five more years, but you have to give to get so would you rather give Guhle or Matheson?
Hughes and Gorton have shown in the past dealing from a position of strength for a position of need is something they feel comfortable doing.
That being said, I’d only do this if I’m confident in Necas becoming a ppg guy in Montréal. He could work out like Zibenejad in NY. I am not a scout though
Honestly its looking like Matheson is the guy we’d have to swap. I would do it, mostly because it would give Lane the reigns for a lot of ozone time and management is willing to gamble on it. If Hutson doesn’t rise to the occasion its not even that bad as it would give Guhle a lot of minutes offensively as well.

To me losing Matheson would mean we are definitely going to be taking a bottom 10 pick next year because that defence will be so young and really not quite ready for the big leagues yet. Especially unfair to Montembeau and Primeau as well.
If its Matheson for necas im good with it. Ghule/xhekaj/mailloux/hutson/reinbacher id rather keep them on the team for their youth
I wouldn’t hate it if it was 1 for 1 with Matheson, definitely wouldn’t want to add much more to it. Would line us up for a really nice pick next year too before finally turning the corner.

Losing Matheson would hurt the short term but as a rebuilding team getting good value out of assets you have that aren’t part of the long term goal is important.
Is he worth more moneywise than suzuki? His salary is over suzuki’s no? Would he be then considered the 2nd top player? Will he be?
Montreal has very little other teams would want in order to compete now. Matheson is a good trade piece although I’m sure Carolina is getting better offers. Also, we don’t need Me as whatsoever. He doesn’t move the needle in any direction and I’m not comfortable trading assets on top of handing him a massive extension only for it to slightly raise this team’s floor. No team has ever been a Necas away from competing. Stay patient, keep rebuilding.
Trading Matheson for Necas would be crazy, but I’d do it more to see MSL lose his shit cuz his defense has no anchor and the radio shows would go crazy for the rest of the summer with the next draft on top
