Land Auction Canceled Six Days Prior to Auction Date

Well, this is another setback for the Coyotes. This is another reason the NHL was wise to make the move they did with the franchise.

  1. Moron-ello just used the state of Arizona to create his silver-parachute. Clever. By having Arizona straw-man his ability to build an arena, he got to sell the team at more favorable terms.

Arizona canceling the auction is a shot across the bow. Wow.

  2. Atlanta has 2 sites approved and ready for shovels in the ground. 2 owner groups with deep pockets sitting and waiting for an opportunity to arise. Just sayin… Lets Go A T L ! ! !

  3. In this story, my main question is: How come Meruelo is a billionaire?
I mean, it sounds like this man just never does due diligence.

  4. So…Meruelo will just take the billion dollars and run? Too bad the employees who got laid off by this only got a final check. “Have fun growing old”
    -Meruelo probably.

  5. The Az. State Land Department is now considering using this land for the location of a New Nuclear Power generating Station. And Alex Meruelo will be the Principal Owner.
This is a perfect location as it's near the CAP Canal for all of it's water needs, and it can also swap water from the CAP with water from the Verde and Salt River as needed.

  6. This whole deal just gets more and more amusing. Now the state of Arizona is telling this guy, in polite legalese, that they trust him about as much as they trust Bernie Madoff. There has got to be someone out there lining up a documentary about this whole story.

  7. Sorry im not up to speed on this ! But i would like clearification ! Last seasons coyotes are moving to utah , whos going to be the team in the new pheonix arena ?

  8. Muruelo challenges the A's ownership for the worst sports ownership in North America, likely the world

  9. I said before that if the NHL wants to return to Arizona, Meruelo can't be involved. This is only further proof of that. He's burned too many bridges in the state and screwed up too many times. If the NHL wants to return to the state, they need a new guy running the ship.

  10. Hmmm while following your season by season historical videos of the league, its relatively the same period of each century, could alex morelo be this century ed livingstone?

  11. Why didn’t Muriello know to do this especially with all the chatter about this property? I’m not impressed with his competence as an owner or businessman.

  12. Arizona officials are insanely corrupt. Couldn't they have said something months ago? Don't blame the owner, blame the officials who want to be paid.

  13. Sounds like the governing people of Arizona really doesn't want a hockeyteam there. The amount of hurdles they are putting up to make it go through is silly.

  14. Not sure if you’ve talked about it, but have you reviewed the 2011 Canucks riot documentary yet?

  15. We all knew this was going to fail, its the Yotes, hence why they're not their anymore…I hope they never get a team under that ownership again.

  16. Even if Meruelo gets the land for the arena, it's probably going to fall apart due to his habit of not paying people.

  17. It almost seems like the state government doesn't overly want hockey in Arizona… or maybe just Murrelo's hockey team..

  18. Billionaires..who want the city to bend over backwards, and use taxpayers money instead of using their own money…if you had a unlimited money..do you think youd have a problem..buying a team and building an arena?

  19. I still completely believe they (AM and GB) have no intent on bringing the coyotes back. This was just a get out of jail free card and lip service. Lip service from a slimeball lawyer (Gary) and a souless billionaire (alex). Why be upfront and do something that will anger some ppl when you can lie and soften the eventual blow as it becomes evident over 5 years when the wound is less raw. When you're running a business, angry patrons, regardless of quantity, are not good for business.

  20. Dumb question– how does land which is owned by the state and never been developed (doesn't even have utility connections) have a permit for a youth hockey arena?

It makes me think Alex tried to pull a fast one by taking a site the franchise might've previously been interested in (for growing the game of hockey) and try to railroad in a neighborhood on a youth arena permit…

  21. If they don't get it done without the 5 year window, I'd love to see the Jets buy back the rights to the old logo and the franchise records. Re-unite it all under one franchise where it belongs.
