The Washington Capitals Major Move: Analyzing Pierre-Luc Dubois’ Impact on the Team

The recent trade involving Pierre-Luc Dubois has brought significant attention to the Washington Capitals’ roster. Dubois, a 25-year-old center, is anticipated to bring upgrades to the team’s center position and provide additional playmaking abilities to support Alex Ovechkin. There’s a lot of anticipation regarding Dubois’ addition to the team, given his size, exceptional skating skills, and high hockey IQ. However, while there’s excitement surrounding Dubois’ potential, there are also concerns about his recent performance and consistency, as well as the financial implications of his substantial contract. This trade has sparked discussions among fans and analysts about how Dubois will adapt to the Capitals’ playing style and whether he can live up to expectations in his new role.

  1. If we didn’t trade up to acquire Michkov because he had character concerns, why acquire PLD? Unless everyone is utterly wrong in his “locker room concern” personality, we shouldn’t have taken the chance on him. The Capitals have amazing locker room chemistry and family albeit, so why would we take the chance on PLD? I feel like LA won this trade. Alas however, we’ll see what happens this season. I’m really hoping this doesn’t haunt us like the Forsberg trade does.

  2. Kings fan here… I feel bad for you guys. The guy has a heart the size of a pee and coasts 90% of the time. Oh, and he's also a big p@#$y. He'll do some dirty things every once in a while, but when the going gets tough, he cowers away and is pacified.

  3. The Capitals have so much cap space tied up in players who may or may not even play this season that their ability to make splash moves is extremely limited. It seems fairly clear all they are trying to do is to help Ovechkin break the goal scoring record and to get a number of players off the books so they can rebuild. I have no idea what to think of this move. I'll wait for Ovechkin's opinion.

  4. 👀 I again immediately commented on past video, “DAN! Discuss! …..I read sooo many kings fans comments, and they don’t even like him, he causes drama apparently, sucked last year, He sounds like our KUZY but worse! 🤨🤔🤔🤔🤔😡 and EIGHT YEARS?!? Ughhhh. They’re so happy to get of him!! Our management is insane…. Let Carbs do it, he’d do better lol

  5. Key word “POTENTIAL” …. Same thing they said about Kuzy and we stuck with this nut now lol

  6. I feel two separate ways on this . Cons: this could go horribly wrong. Pros: carbery is one of the only coaches I trust to turn PLD into a star, we kinda have nothing to lose at this point, because we’re not tearing anything down until ovi leaves, and now this is PLD’s last chance to prove he can be that star. do or die. Obviously I’m nervous, but excited nonetheless, can’t wait to see how this team looks next year

  7. I get the move, glaring hole at 1C and you can't pay a backup 5.25 million… but I'm just not sure if Dubois will gel with the Caps

  8. This is what should get Maclellan fired. Trying to appease Ovi instead of creating a winning team is what is killing them.

  9. I like the move. Finally Dubois has a chance to find a home for good. Just look at his stats. When he gets 17-18 minutes of ice time per game 60+ points and 25-30 goals pretty much guaranteed. Perhaps he is capable of finding another gear and the fact the he has been given the ball. He will be given a chance to be one of the faces of the franchise for years to come. Kuemper gone feels great.

  10. You will watch Dubois make a great play about every 10th game. Don’t fall for it. He is a guy who has no compete. If only you guys had three teams to consult before making this commitment to Dubois. And you all sound like Kings fans a year ago, ha ha ha. EXACTLY like Kings fans. Might. Potentially. Wait and see. Top six. (He was bottom six all year on a team claiming future 1C)

  11. The Caps only focus is Ovie breaking the record. The rebuild is going to be long and painful after he is gone. They got their cup and will get the record and then poof.

  12. This move was made with the understanding that alot of money will come off the books when Oshie, Backstrom, Carlson and Ovi retire. 2 to 4 years for most of them. With that in mind and the salary cap rising, I think this was worth the risk.

  13. I'm a Kings fan and I was ecstatic a year ago when Pld was traded to la from Winnipeg. To be very honest, the guy was a total disappointment. I can justify not producing but to show nothing else on the ice was unacceptable. I'm shocked caps took on this contract. Best wishes to you guys. Hope he works out.

  14. Everybody loves playing for Carbery, call me crazy just because it’s PLD’s 4th team but Tortorella, Maurice and McClellan are not as much of a player’s coach as a Carbery.

  15. While certainly not the ideal acquisition, we wouldn't have been able to get an ideal player. This is how you get very good young players; and also an opportunity to move Darcy Kuemper. I'm trying to be optimistic.

  16. Alright, super glad to comment especially since it helps the channel..
it’s been awhile since I’ve watched these but I think I’m going to more to put my voice into the mix… I feel that is needed.

Right off the bat, I sense a TON of negativity in the atmosphere of Caps fans. No offense, everyone’s entitled to their opinions, but I have got to say “why the long faces, babes!?”. We are so lucky. We still have Ovi. Who cares about the Rangers or being eliminated or any of the other things that seem to be worrying everyone? I am not looking at it that way. I see so much excitement in our future. Excitement and joy. Even happiness and satisfaction. Yes, that’s right…. This is partially because I believe, but also because I am seeing greatness all around. We got rid of Kuemper! That is HUGE! Let’s just take a minute (as many of us need to) and appreciate what it feels like when our GM does something that absolutely 100% NEEDS TO BE DONE!! We could be Toronto (no offense there, and I think you are improving as well, just not as fast) or any number of teams who struggle struggle struggle. Moves that don’t work again and again. I know this is what so many of you are saying with PLD, but look, this guy is great. Who cares if he’s a locker room cancer, 😂, we will figure it out!!!! What are you so afraid of!? Seriously?? What are we?? BABIES!???😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 We’ve got this, dudes. We have a great coach, great leaders, OFREAKINGVECHKIN, and a STELLAR goalie amongst other things!!!!!!!!! We have got this!!! Let’s all just take a moment to breathe and woosahh. Trust me, it’s so needed. It could be worse, we could be Pittsburgh.. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 PLD is exciting because what’s going to happen?? RIGHT!!!??? Let’s go!!! This could be amazing and if it’s not, who freaking cares!! We got what we needed and he is going to take us to the next level!! News flash, that’s where we’re going guys so let’s go!!!! Ps: our locker room is so great, so don’t worry if he’s a primadonna or whatever. It will be fine… we’re not the Jets, we’re not Columbus and we’re not the Kings. I can see why he didn’t fit there and you can cry all day about why he’s the problem, but I’m sick of the negativity. Let’s freaking go, we got us a top line Center and there’s literally no stopping once this wagon gets going, boys so let’s enjoy it!!!

  17. I love this trade for the Capitals. PLD is going to be perfect for this role. Depth down the middle will give you legitimatecy, and with your already established defense, your team is playoff ready. Continue to lay the nessary foundation DC team commitment leaves you ready to not re build but re load. 🫎

  18. Darcy Kuemper's not good either. There's more upside with Pierre-Luc Dubois. With that said Jonathan Marchessault might've signed for less than 8 million lol.

  19. This is the kind of high-risk, high-reward move a team should make at the cusp of a rebuild. Our cap situation is solid moving forward and with Lindgren/Stevenson as a possible tandem next year, we barely exceed 2 million in cap spending at the goalie position. This enables us to accommodate a move such as this one. Worst case, he becomes an overpaid 0.5 ppg player for us. In a best-case scenario, we just got a complimentary long-term piece for our future core.

I will give McPhee (the former GM) credit for getting the job done in the drafting department. However, he failed miserably at complementing the core players with a good enough supporting cast due to his risk aversion when making trades. I wouldn't be surprised if Dubois leads the team in points next year.

  20. Basically you got a top 9 Centre/Left Wing who is paid like a top line Centre. Who play like a 2nd line center in his best year ! For an an Hot and cold Goalie who got is best year in Minnesota and Los Angeles. You HOPE he will fit well with your top scorer and best player you captain Alex Ovechkin.

  21. Kings fan here. I’m in disbelief we were able to get rid of PLD. That being said, I don’t think his issues with the Kings were entirely his fault. He was terribly managed and I don’t think constantly shuffling our lines around was really good for anyone. He seems like the type of player that needs consistency in his wingers to build chemistry. If that’s what Ovechkin is looking for, it could be a good matchup. PLD has a high ceiling and I personally don’t think we’ve seen how high that ceiling is, but we know where the floor is. I was never on the PLD hate train and I hope he proves himself with the Capitals.

  22. Kings and Caps fan here. Grew up in DMV now living past 35 years in So Cal. Hope for the best for my Caps, but man PLD is the most frustrating player to watch. Having watch all 82 gms this past season, he’s just not 100% into it. Every few games he’ll have several shifts where he just uses his natural talent and size to dominate and you get your hopes up. Then the rest of the game and subsequent games he’s going through the motions. He got what and where he wanted to go by being traded to LA last summer. Yet he’s still only a 20% player. He gets to live in Manhattan Beach with all the other players, be part of a strong and very tight locker room lead by Kopi, Doughty, etc.. yet still nonchalant and indifference play. Don’t know how or who in Caps locker room can get through to this guy. Happy for my Kings to get out from the mistake by Blake and wish for the best for my Caps.

  23. No disrespect to any Caps fan, I've enjoyed watching your talented team over the years, but you're going to absolutely hate PLD.
As a lifelong Kings fan, I had a glimmer of hope (like you many of you have right now) when we acquired him from Winnipeg but wait till you watch him play.
His game is beyond lethargic, verging on dysfunctionally apathetic on the ice.
HES A LOCKER ROOM CANCER and his only redeeming quality is his ability to speak elequently with the media about his intentions/goals.
Don't be fooled by the term UPSIDE you're going to hear a lot surrounding him.
HE IS ABSOLUTE CANCER AND MAKES EVERYONE AROUND HIM WORSE.
I watched every single Kings game this year, including the playoffs, and we were basically resigned to the fact that we were going to have to endure him for 7 more years.
Thank you for taking him off our hands.
Whatever DK gives us in net we'll live with.
    Sorry for your loss.

  24. Att Caps fans from Kings fan: PLD was demoted not only to 3rd line but also played on the 4th line too. Why ? Because his lackluster effort game in and game out. All the talent in the world, but only shows up when he feels like it. Which is not very often !
That’s who he is at his core !!!! Good luck, bu don’t get your hopes up or you will be as disappointed as we are.

  25. I actually don't know why anyone would be worried about Dubois having an attitude problem now that he's on the Caps. He steps out of line one time and all it's gonna take is Tom Wilson looking in his direction once and he's gonna shit his pants & step right back into line. LGC baby!!!

  26. I used the WSH website called Cap Friendly to add Valeri Nichushkin to the Caps & he juuuuuust fits in at $6.125M AAV (using RFA values based on other rosters). If the Caps are riding out Ovie's deal & taking on risky long term deals, might as well go all in. A fellow Russian might get Ovie to get in shape (have u seen his dadbod?). COL might accept Future Considerations, although if multiple teams are in-play then a middle round pick or B prospect might work too. When Nuke plays, he's a dominant first line Wing. If he flames out in WSH, then it really doesn't hurt their plan of eventually tanking & doing a full rebuild. Lets be real: that's where this team is heading very soon.
