Robert Whittaker Delivers Devastating Knockout to Defeat Ikram Aliskerov at UFC Saudi Arabia Main Event
Robert Whittaker continues to prove his dominance in the ring.
After Khamzat Chimaev withdrew from the UFC Saudi Arabia main event at the last minute, former middleweight champion Whittaker accepted a fight against rising star Ikram Aliskerov without hesitation. Whittaker demonstrated his superiority by landing a powerful left punch early on, leading to a quick finish.
With Aliskerov visibly stunned, Whittaker unleashed a rapid combination of strikes, including a brutal uppercut that floored his opponent. Whittaker then delivered a few more blows before referee Marc Goddard intervened to stop the fight.
The fight was officially halted at 1:49 in the first round.
“I told you, I told everybody, I’m the boogeyman,” Whittaker exclaimed post-fight. “I’m the most dangerous matchup for anyone in the division. Because I’m the best in the world. I’ll take any fight, any time. I’ll fight anyone.”
Despite the high-risk, low-reward nature of the fight against the untested but dangerous Aliskerov, Whittaker showed no hesitation, attacking aggressively from the start. His decisive left hand quickly destabilized Aliskerov.
Sensing an opportunity, Whittaker relentlessly pursued Aliskerov, culminating in a stunning knockout. Whittaker’s experience proved crucial in securing the victory, marking only the second loss in Aliskerov’s career.
“It was experience,” Whittaker said. “I’ve been in this position 100 times. I told you I was going to be the hunter and that’s exactly what I did.”
This victory positions Whittaker as a contender for a No. 1 contender’s match, possibly against Sean Strickland, or as a backup for the middleweight title bout between Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya at UFC 305 in Australia on August 17.
Whittaker expressed his readiness for any upcoming challenge. “I’m healthy, I’m hearty,” Whittaker said. “Let’s go.”
