LATEST RUMORS surrounding Boston Bruins: Is Ullmark getting traded?

Jim MC rde rights in the Boston glow of the Bruins are hitting their busiest twoe stretch of their off seon as uh the draft is this Friday and Saturday in Vegas free agency opens on July 1st trades are already coming hot and heavy there’s a couple goal tenders that were moved and there’s rumors about lenus almark and where he would go and how in depth these talks are Jim McBride covers the Bruins for the Boston Globe and he joins us on the Volkswagen deal was expert online uh you say something in your article that is in the Boston Globe that I find interesting let’s start there one thing I find it I’m just kidding you but this I like this uh in Sweeney in Sweeney’s perfect world he would keep his Elite tandem of Lena somark and Jeremy swim in between the pipes for another campaign as well keeping de brusk in the fold I don’t doubt that he wouldn’t mind having the brusk however the financials may not make that feasible do you really believe that if Sweeney had brothers that he would keep this tandem well that’s the that’s the message he sent to us at the end of the season uh now I I I don’t think probably in his heart of hearts he’d love to keep that because he knows those two give them a chance to win every night but just the you know just common sense say you can’t do it you just can’t tie up 13 to 15 million in one position where only one guy gets to play at night so um I think deep down sure he’d love to um but that would you know if that scenario plays out it means that Jeremy Swan probably goes to arbitration again and I don’t think either side wants that again because if he signs a deal 8 to 10 million and then you have lenus on the hook for 15 for five uh that’s just prohibitive you just can’t do it so um realistically it just can’t happen but you know in a fantasy world yeah I think he’d love to have both those guys because um you know they’re both Elite and you don’t you don’t normally get a tandem where um you can count on both guys every single night in this league yeah that’s regular season stuff though they you need to win the playoffs did you um do I have I’ve asked other people around the team their opinion on this I know SW and allmark are really good friends and I and I know that they probably will be forever but do you think if allmark stayed around next season that would be disappointing to Swan because Swan you know being a competitor wants to be the outside maybe his inner circle that he was disappointed in that but U talking to us he would say you know I’d always Envision a scenario where him and lenus were together because they are so tight but yeah I think psychologically and professionally yeah you want to be that guy and he’s 25 and this is his time so um I think if you know if Lena stays then he’s going to have that thought in the back of the mind that maybe they don’t think I’m the number one which you know he clearly he clearly is which isn’t an easy thing to say when you’re when you’re competing against the guy who won the you know the last year a lot of Internet rumors over the weekend Jim I don’t know if you were following them yesterday about how lenus alark theoretically is dropped his no movement Clause he would accept a trade for Ottawa and he wants five years and $35 million and the two sides are apparently close do you know anything about this I don’t I think it makes sense I think it amazing how well his the six teams on his no trade was was protected last year I mean you know we tried uh myself and I know other reporters tried to find out what you know just a couple of the teams just to you know see what the scenarios might be at the trade deadline but that thing was that was a state secret I’ll tell you um so you know we all thought that maybe he didn’t want to go to the West Coast and we asked him about that last year and he said you know I I I wouldn’t say just just west coast teams because you can’t predict who’s going to be good and who’s going to be bad I think more in in his head was a team that was going to be you know competitive um which seems to go against these rumors because I don’t think the sen senators are going to be competitive for a while um but maybe he’s the guy that that that changes that and becomes the you know kind of the face of the franchise because they’ve been looking for a solid goalie for a long time um if they have a a plan in place where they’re signing him to a fiveyear $35 million deal I think that bodess well for the Bruins because they’ll probably get more in compensation in you know in back if you’re just sending this guy on a one-year deal for five million that he has left I don’t think the compensations you’re getting back is going to be great because he could walk after a year but if there’s a wink wink nudge nudge deal in place uh sort of like the the hampus lolm deal from a couple years ago um where you know you’re going to lock this guy up for 5 years then you know maybe the Bruins get one of the Senators two first round picks which they desperately need they don’t have another first round pick this year like they like they did last year all right whether he chins extension or just gets traded for the year is that better for lenaar as a businessman regardless than being the backup here and then ultimately not playing in the playoffs again is it better for him uh even if he say that it doesn’t work out with Ottawa and they move him just somewhere else and I don’t know what they get in return We it doesn’t matter it is because we’re talking about his no trade clause isn’t it better for him professionally to move this year or is it does it not make a difference no absolutely you’re you’re right it could be because now he gets to be the you know the number one goalie he gets to have sort of uh I guess what you’d call um you know approve it year even though he he really doesn’t much to prove because he’s been on top of the league for a while but uh it’s a year where he can shine and say to all the other you know 30 te teams in the league you know I’m still a number one goalie and if I don’t get this extension motto I can get it somewhere else so it’s it’s absolutely in his benefit to to go somewhere else and be the number one guy a guy that plays you know 55 60 games a year is there a the sense of urgency to get it done this week does it really matter if the Bruins can get it done this week or over the summer I I guess it doesn’t really matter but this tends to be the week where things happen you know like Taylor Hall and and and Felino got traded last year during this week during during draft week um you know the draft week is kind of the closest thing the NHL has to a you know a league convention and it’s it’s uh it’s kind of like the the NFL combine on a smaller scale like everyone’s there so talks ramp up you don’t have to worry about getting a guy on a phone you can walk across the table to the to that team’s draft um you know table and stop talking to guys so things just tend to happen this week even though um you know it’s not like a sense of urgency where there’s a deadline in place but it just makes it so much easier because everyone’s in one place okay let’s get to De Brusque the you you talk about him I I don’t doubt that they would like to keep him but there’s interest Toronto uh the star over there Toronto Star is saying that they’re interested in him I guess that’s not a surprise maybe it is a little bit of a surprise cuz he bur couple times in the playoffs so I think they’re you know you can’t be doing them type thing yeah sure enough but there is going to be interest as we’ve known from other teams um do you think the Bruins have a shot at keeping him I do but I think it’s at their number um I don’t think there’s a lot of wiggle room I think you know that Sweeney has said that they’d like to keep Jake you know that he’s a a homegrown guy if you will because he was a first round pick and I think they have a number in mind and I’m not sure going to budge off that number and if it’s you know things move pretty quickly on Mon on July 1st on Monday because you know free agency is a is a is a whirlwind in the NHL it’s not like the NFL where things get staggered over a few days uh everything seems to happen Monday so he’s going to have to make a decision pretty quick is that number that the Bruins have on the table palatable or does he think he can get somewhere somewhere else a more somewhere else so him and his agent are going to be um really busy on Monday um and it’ll be interesting but I don’t think the Bruins have much wiggle room I think they’ve told Jake you know here’s the number whatever it may be um take it or leave it yeah and you think his injuries were a part of the reason why he wasn’t as effective at the end of the year yeah I do I think the injuries and I think it was also that that you know he’s kind of admitted this that the contract you know situation played a lot in his head he thought about his future where he was going to be um and I think he you know he let that kind of creep into his game a lot and I think you know his his hand was healed by the time the postseason came and I think that kind of those contract you know thoughts were kind of alleviated once the playoffs came because it was like well now I don’t have you know much time to think this this is it this is my time to prove and he was a much better player in the playoffs now they’d like to see playoff Jake you know over the course of the regular season and you know that would make things a lot easier he’d probably already be signed if you like that clip check out more videos from toucher and Hardy here for more Bruins analysis and opinion hit this playlist
