Mika wants a passer

After reading this article, which others have posted already, I wonder if there has been any discussion amongst the group as far as being a rate at Mika’s comment. The fact that he is quoted as saying, they need a passer on their line basically he’s telling everyone that he takes no responsibility and his anemic scoring not only throughout the year but during the playoff run.

This was somewhat discussed [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/rangers/s/jvBikXKHHX) already. Essentially, yeah, it does seem like a playmaking winger would help that line, since Kreids is more of a net front guy and Mika is more of a sniper. They both could benefit from someone else driving the play and feeding them passes.

Everyone else has centers who drive the play and facilitate others…… we have one crying to have someone pass him the puck 🤦‍♂️

And I want Mika to be someone who isn’t one dimensional, but here we are.

This team just isn’t good enough. Everyone is a year older with more wear and tear and if we resign everyone, you’re going bargain bin hunting and signing older guys to 1 year deals. You can’t run it back with the same team and expect to win anything.

I look forward to the day (hopefully in the next couple weeks) when we sign a legit 1RW who allows Mika to flourish, and everyone hating on a guy (due to recency bias) who has been a PPG player over the last 3 years in the regular season and playoffs (combined) has to eat all this shit they’re spewing.

EDIT: I also love that ***none*** of these Mika-bashing posts ever mention ***anyone*** who would replace him. As if there’s some magical better-than-PPG center out there who’s not old and is as good a 2-way forward just waiting to be signed to a cheaper deal than Mika has. 🙄

And I want Mika to show up for once instead of disappearing for like 30 games on end. We’re beating a dead horse here. If Kreider and Zibanejad need someone to get them going then they’re not good enough and the team won’t win.

    A rw is needed

    1. Toffoli

    2. Arvidsson

    3. DeBrusk

    4. Marchessult

    5. Bertuzzi

    NOT PATRICK KANE or Guentzel

  8. NYdude777

Aren’t 1C’s supposed to be the facilitators?

  9. Stonewall30NY

You know most elite teams 1c can just get the job done both passing and shooting. This is why Mika ain’t a 1c

I’ve said this repeatedly here, but that line needs someone who can forecheck and dig the puck out from the boards/behind the net.

Mika has to deal with whatever offensive threat in the D zone and Kreider, for all his front of the net skill, doesn’t come back hard to play defense, or win puck battles.

I’d love to see a physical RW who can control a dump in and distribute to them.

It’s a shame we need to keep wasting assets to find a fit with our “number 1” center. That NMC is going to haunt this team for years.

id be more okay w this if mika’s scoring touch wasn’t nonexistent this postseason. he fanned on many great looks and his shot placement was just awful.

I think there’s a player on the Blues who would fill this role really well. Buch something, his name.

  14. jahauser

Mika’s shot was not good enough this year. He shanked it about half the time, and when he did rip it he usually missed well high and wide. Oh, and then he passed to the other team quite a bit if the pass wasn’t literally perfect tape to tape.

He’s still a very good player, but I hope he realizes that if indeed he sees his role as the sniper on the line, he did not perform it this year.

8.5 million but meeds someone else to do his work.. grifter. Would have been micr to see him pull his bootstraps up and make a difference happen.

  16. CZ-Ranger

Alright Mika hit the wing then brother. Teuvo here we come

    “That’s sports”

    That quote says it all

  18. notmyfault2

Passer? 37 passes out of the defensive zone isn’t enough?

Idk, I think you completely change as a person when you have a child and priorities might be different. With professional athletes a 1% change can mean everything. I personally believe that his child actually affected his play and hopefully next year he can go back to his old self.

I have zero information to back up this statement, just a hunch
